Just like the AXA Assistance USA Gold plan, the Platinum plan provides additional Travel Delay benefits along with coverage if your golf or ski trip is disrupted due to Inclement Weather. Another added benefit is coverage for Sports Equipment Rental coverage.

I put no in the recommendation because I did not file a claim. The principle test of any insurance carrier is their claims service. Your price was not the best but then again I had limited options because I purchased the coverage so late. That was my fault.

Kind of hard to rate the plan and/or answer specific questions when no claim was filed (thankfully). That's the only way to know if the coverage was good and service efficient...or not.

STAY AWAY FROM AXA INSURANCE. An insurance plan is only as good as the claim process, and my experience was terrible. My hotel reservation was cancelled 4 hours prior to arrival, due to the hotel booking firm going out of business. I called to ask whether my policy covered this as I was not sure if it did. The customer service person promised me a response in 2 hours, as he was also not sure, but none came. More than 24 hours later (during which time I had to scramble to rebook the hotel at a higher cost), I received an email saying I had filed a Trip Interruption claim (I had not - and it didn't seem that it would be covered under this section anyway) and asking for documentation they knew I wouldn't have. There was no explanation as to why they sent this and suggested I file under that. I emailed back to explain the situation as I assumed the phone rep had not understood or correctly communicated it, and question what the email was about but received no reply. I also received no further communications asking if I needed further assistance, or wished to proceed with my claim. All-in-all this was a very frustrating experience under stressful circumstances, I will not buy from AXA Assistance again.

I am glad I purchased trip insurance for a once in life time 2 week trip to Italy. Luckily nothing prevented us from taking the trip and we didn't have any issues during the trip so we didn't need to file a claim. It would be nice if you use the same company several times for different trips that they provide you some type of rebate or cash back if you don't need to file any claims.

When we make major trips, we always buy this same policy because it offers the coverage we need at a very competitive price. We did not have any claims on our last trip but we did on the one immediately previous to the last one. Those claims were paid promptly when I provided the property documentation. Travel insurance is very important coverage and a comprehensive policy like this one covers us against the most dire of circumstances - medical evacuation and medical care. Were an event to occur, we could quickly find ourselves in significant debt to pay those expenses. We think that insuring against those possibilities is the prudent decision.

The companies have good reputations and it is foolish to not insure something that could help in the event of a loss. Our cost is high now because we are in our mid 70s but it is obvious that the risk is higher. It cost about 10% of the trip expenses in advance. But we were able to do about $10000 of non refundable arrangements that gave us premium rooms, the best opera seats and good spots on our Flights. I do think any loss would have been paid on such clear payments. But one never knows what is insured until it happens.

I booked this plan to provide some more assurance while on a 5 week trip to Europe. As others often say, this plan provides some peace of mind to know that, if I did encounter a medical difficulty abroad I would not be financially ruined as a result. That confidence is valuable.
