AXA Assistance USA Platinum

The AXA Assistance USA Platinum plan is everything the Gold is – and a little bit more. While you have all the standard comprehensive benefits you’d expect, such as trip cancellation, baggage protection, and trip delay; you also have optional add-ons such as Cancel for Any Reason and rental car collision protection. You will have to check with your rental car company to see if they will accept this type of insurance before adding it on to your plan.

For the athletic travelers, this plan includes coverage for lost golf rounds, lost skier days, and sports equipment rental. Details about these coverages can be found in the full plan certificate. The AXA Assistance USA Platinum plan also includes natural disaster or man-made disaster coverage that provides possible reimbursement if your primary residence or accommodations at your destination becomes uninhabitable and bankruptcy coverage for the financial default of your travel suppliers.

Like the other AXA plans, the Platinum includes Travel Assistance Servies, which include Medical Repatriation and Political and Security Emergency Evacuation. AXA also includes their "White-Glove" Concierge Servies which contains services such as, restaurant and hotel referrals and reservations, Entertainment information and ticketing, golf course information for referrals and tee times, luxury rental information, and so much more.

There were a few unexpected flight delays going to France and coming home but luckily the airlines was able to make provisions without any extra costs. It was peace of mind to having the insurance.

Although we didn't have to file a claim on this trip, we have learned our lesson on the importance of trip insurance for overseas trips. We have had to utilize the services for insurance in the past and the experience with the carrier was superb. We would have lost a lot of money in medical services and cancelled reservations that were not refundable. We don't travel without it now.

STAY AWAY FROM AXA INSURANCE. An insurance plan is only as good as the claim process, and my experience was terrible. My hotel reservation was cancelled 4 hours prior to arrival, due to the hotel booking firm going out of business. I called to ask whether my policy covered this as I was not sure if it did. The customer service person promised me a response in 2 hours, as he was also not sure, but none came. More than 24 hours later (during which time I had to scramble to rebook the hotel at a higher cost), I received an email saying I had filed a Trip Interruption claim (I had not - and it didn't seem that it would be covered under this section anyway) and asking for documentation they knew I wouldn't have. There was no explanation as to why they sent this and suggested I file under that. I emailed back to explain the situation as I assumed the phone rep had not understood or correctly communicated it, and question what the email was about but received no reply. I also received no further communications asking if I needed further assistance, or wished to proceed with my claim. All-in-all this was a very frustrating experience under stressful circumstances, I will not buy from AXA Assistance again.
