I had a medical issue while overseas but didn’t want to visit a doctor in a 3rd world country. Since I waited until I was back in the US to get medical treatment I was not eligible to file a claim.

    The IMG iTravelInsured LX plan provides coverage up to 100,000 USD per person for unforeseen, accidental injuries or emergency illnesses which first occur during the trip, and are treated by a physician during the trip. If medical treatment is not obtained during the trip, and the traveler waits until returning home to the United States, the travel insurance expires and is not responsible for the medical bills.

Generali Global Assistance Standard
Buyer beware. My claim was denied. They were looking for the flimsiest of excuses to deny. First one ground then another and then another when it was pointed out that grounds for denial were incorrect. If someone has a medical emergency denying coverage because they did not return home within 7 days as opposed to 10 days as per physician advise, in my opinion is just the worst. I'm surprised that insure my trip which has been a reasonable broker,  with who I have done business for many years, carries this insurance. Being self congratulatory by mentioning 65K reviews is not going to help if you have forgotten your basic customer service ethos. I have recommended many customers to your site; needless to say this will not happen in the future and I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I had to file a very simple straightforward rather inexpensive claim. The communication is absolutely nil They do not respond to you at all. They send you a simple form response and tell you to wait 15 days. 15 business days that is. Whoever expects to have to wait 15 business days to have a simple claim adjudicated. Completely unreasonable. Not the only thing, they did not fully cover my loss. Something to the effect that it was over the limit. I broke my camera, and you're not going to cover the cost of a $273 camera? Over The limit? Not impressed. I would say if you can go with a different company, that is communicative. And covers your loss fully... Go with the other company

    Nationwide advises that your claim was received on 04/22/2019 claiming 273.27 USD for the camera. Your claim was received via email and an automated response would have been sent advising of the 15 business days. The claims representative then reviewed the claim on 05/03/2019. Payment was released on 05/06/2019 for the maximum benefit of 250 USD per article.

    We are sorry that you are unhappy with the maximum payment of 250 USD but the limitation is shown in your quote and can be reviewed prior to purchasing the policy:

    "Baggage and Personal Effects – Coverage is Secondary:
    Up to 600 USD / 250 USD per article limit; 500 USD combined maximum for specified items."

    "There will be a combined Maximum Benefit limit shown on the Confirmation of Coverage for the following: jewelry; watches; articles consisting in whole or in part of silver, gold or platinum; furs; articles trimmed with or made mostly of fur; cameras and their accessories and related equipment.”

    Even though you believe that the claim took too long to process, the claims representative settled your claim within 15 days of receiving your documents.

    The Berkshire Hathaway ExactCare plan was one of the most competitively priced policies for your trip while still offering the Pre-Existing Condition Waiver, a Primary Medical Limit of 50,000 USD and an Emergency Medical Evacuation Limit of 1,000,000 USD.

    Premiums for comprehensive policies are based largely on the length of the trip, the ages of the travelers, and the cost of the trip. Although a travel insurance policy is considered to be of good value when the policy premium is within 10% of the insured trip cost, that ratio is usually based on a trip that is no more than 30 days. Since your trip was approximately 93 days long, this increased your pricing.

Tokio Marine HCC Medical Insurance Atlas International
Avoid this plan if you really want to be "insured". I was stuck in a foreign country, since my toddler fell sick (virus that causes breathing difficulty) prior to the return trip. Tokio Marine refused to pay the medical bill and the replacement ticket. The claims website is very obfuscating and pretty hard to figure out how it works. Go with a different company.

Upon speaking with the insurance provider it appears the medical claim was paid, subject to the deductible selected on the policy. In terms of the trip interruption claim, it appears the reason for interrupting the trip, although serious, was not related to a listed covered reason, per the certificate. You do have the right to appeal the claim, and the link to proceed with the appeal was provided by the insurance provider. In the future we encourage you, and all customers, to call us prior to purchasing the insurance and we can assist you with purchasing a policy based on your primary concerns. Tokio Marine HCC Medical Insurance Atlas International
The most important parts were loss of luggage, cancellation of trip, and medical coverage while abroad. We did not experience any of these conditions but it was comforting thought that should something like this happen we were covered.
