Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
Purchased this plan and fell ill the day before departure and was not able to travel. Completed and submitted all claim forms including a memo describing the fact that the cruise line would not provide a written cancellation confirmation. I was able to sell my reservation to someone else at the last minute (at a huge discount) and reduce the insurer's loss.
Trip cancellation coverage purchased was $4,200.00. My loss was $3,516.12. Nationwide paid a measly $517.20 !!!

    Thank you for your review. We are sorry to learn you fell ill and could not travel. Travel insurance is meant to make travelers listed on travel documents whole for their lost expenses. When a reservation is sold or transferred to another traveler the new person is now listed on the travel documents. Since they are now listed on the travel documents, they are the responsible party for reimbursement as the trip is still being taken by a party and there is no cancellation confirmations by the travel suppliers. Although you tried to reduce the insurance providers loss you, you transferred the risk and the new traveler was then responsible for making you whole for the expenses they are now liable for, according to the travel documents. I had one question about using the medical facility on the ship and the customer service person I spoke with was useless and could not answer my question. Seemed like a good plan but customer service is worthless.

As I never had occasion to file a claim, it’s next to impossible to evaluate the company and its policies. But with a 90 year old mother and with me now being on Medicare, any foreign travel requires such insurance- preferably ‘insure for any risk’ in order to cover pre-existing conditions- and to provide both medical and automobile liability insurance for myself and any friends accompanying me.

    Thank you for your feedback. Comprehensive plans are designed to cover as many risks as possible, but is very rare for any insurance plan to cover all possible risks.

    With this plan, the exclusion for Pre-Existing Condition will be waived provided:
    a) Your Payment or Deposit for this Policy and enrollment form are received within 24 hours of the final Payment for Your Trip or before the final Payment for Your Trip; and
    b) You are not disabled from travel at the time Your premium is paid.

    For your state of residence, this policy covers 500,000USD per person in Medical.

    While this policy does have 40,000USD in Rental Car coverage, it would not cover liability, as that would be an exclusion on all travel insurance policies offered on our site.

Insure my trip provided several choices of trip insurance plans. The plan we purchased..International Medical Group iTravelInsured SE provided greater coverage and at lower price than any other plans that our regular travel insurance specialist could offer. . Application and enrollment were seamless. We of course are fortunate that we did not require filing any claims.
