Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
The initial cost of the plan was okay when I first purchased the insurance, but when I tried to add more coverage for additional expenses prior to the trip (e.g., paid for a rented an apartment in Paris), the price was outrageously high. I didn't get all the coverage that I wanted because it became too expensive.

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare Value
Luckily this was yet another travel protection plan that I purchased but did not need to file a claim on, but it was there if needed, and that's the best situation each and every time. Great coverage at a good price, and I would readily repeat the purchase. Easy to recommend.

I did call them about filing a claim but...
I bought this plan to cover my expenses for a month. On arrival at my out of USA destination I noticed my bag zipper pull was broken & I couldn't lock my bag. I notified Delta via email as I didn't notice it until I got to my hotel. They replied they don't cover zippers but if I had insurance would help me with the claim. When I returned I contacted IMG & they said they would cover it but claim had to be submitted within 20 days of incident. Needless to say it was well over that time frame. On vacation we have to make do & I didn't think I had to rush to file a claim. I had to move some items into my carry on bag & laptop case to protect them from an unlocked bag. I guess I didn't read the fine print. Also the company never sent a "how did we do with your call"email. Disappointed

Generali Global Assistance Standard
The cruise line took bankruptcy and your company did NOTHING for us. Apparently the information was in the fine print. What a joke. We will tell everyone we know that your company should not be used by anyone. We did not get to take the trip...obviously, and you have our money. I'm sure this review will not be published.

AIG Travel Travel Guard® Essential
This is an awful plan. I had to pay thousands upfront for hospitalization. That took away funds needed for the remainder of my trip. That was the whole purpose of obtaining insurance.
The customer service was no help. The number on the policy did not work. I had to go online to get a number to call.
Never again and I will let everyone know.

    We are very sorry to hear about your hospitalization while on your trip. We hope that you have fully recovered! In general, travel insurance is reimbursement based. The Insured files a claim for losses related to a covered trip, and all claims are fully adjudicated based on the coverage purchased and supporting documentation. We cannot preapprove or deny a claim. There are limited circumstances in which advance payment may be provided, such as to a hospital or provider if it’s required prior to admission. These details are outlined within your Policy of Insurance document.



    It’s also important to note that while many Travel Guard products have “primary” medical, the Essential Plan is our more economical option and medical is “secondary”. This means the Insured would file through any other primary provider first, before filing a claim for the excess under their Essential policy. The Essential plan offers an optional upgrade called the Medical Bundle to make the medical benefit “primary” instead of “secondary”, but this upgrade needs to be elected and purchased prior to the trip departure date. As noted, we have many plans that include primary medical automatically without needing to purchase an upgrade for it. Our Preferred plan for example, is the next step up from the Essential plan, and it includes primary medical. Please refer to the description of the Travel Medical Expense benefit within your Policy of Insurance for more information, or call us to learn more. That being said, we are also sorry to hear you experienced challenges while trying to contact us during your trip. You indicated you did not wish to be contacted in regards to your review, but please let us know which phone number you were calling, so we can fully investigate and rectify the issue if need be. The International, Domestic, and 24/7 Emergency numbers listed on the Policy of Insurance document all appear to be in working-order. These numbers are as follows:
