I was left without my baggage for 12 days out of a 14-day trip. The travel services section link on www.hccmis.com didn't work, so I was thus unable to get the information to file a claim.
I emailed customer service but never heard back from them. Based on this experience, I would be afraid to be in the position of needing any assistance, were I to purchase travel insurance coverage from HCC Medical Insurance Services ever again.

It is important for me to have a plan that offers medical evacuation when I am traveling to areas outside the US. This service is an absolute must-have and it needs to be at a level high enough to cover all contingencies. This CSA policy does this.

Fortunately, I didn't need to use my coverage, but the peace of mind it afforded me was worth the cost. I did talk to customer service because my son wasn't feeling well in the days leading up to the trip. They were extremely helpful in explaining my options. Luckily, my son's condition improved and we were able to make our scheduled trip.

C&F Travel Insured International Trip Protector Lite Expanded
Actually I had a problem on the trip and it raised a question about how trip insurance works. My flight from Boston to St. Thomas was delayed to the extent that I knew I was going to miss the last ferry to my destination in the British Virgin Islands. I would have to take a room in St Thomas and forfeit a night at my destination at a rate of $500.

I called your claims department to find out if they would cover the additional expense of a private water taxi to get to my destination. They kept telling me the delay had to be for more than 6 hours. I cannot relate this time factor to what was essentially a missed connection. I tried to explain to them that if I spent additional money I would get there in less than a 6 hour delay but then they said it wouldn't be covered.

It ended up that other people heard me on the phone at the airport gate and we got a group of 12 together to hire the water taxi. We barely make it in time to get through customs by paying them overtime. But all's well that ends well! Had a fabulous second stay at Frenchmans Cay in Tortola. Will be going back next year.

I would Ike a clarification of how a missed connection relates to a time interval.

    Thank you for your review, and helping your fellow travelers. The Missed Connection benefit which is available on some package policies, including yours, is listed on a benefit chart within your policy. Within this benefit, a specified length of delay is listed on the policy, in this case, six hours. Therefore, it's imperative that travelers leave at least that much time between the flight and the ship departure time. i.e. A delay of six hours or more triggers the coverage.

    There are policies available that require only a 3 hour delay to trigger a missed connection benefit. We are always available via phone, chat or email to answer any questions regarding your policy.
