For a number of years we took the insurance mainly for trip cancellation because we had aging parents. We now are of Social security age and take it not only for cancellation in case we become ill or injured before the trip but also for illness coverage during the tripsince our health insurance does not cover us out of the United States.

Allianz Global Assistance Basic
I was most interested in the added plan covering CDW for the rental car.(apparently necessary for
the State I reside in). $9 a day is a lot better than that offered by the Car Rental Co. For that price
I received coverage which is primary....I have experience with this and will never go without it...in my
opinion, forget your CC and coverage provided by your own insurance .. this is better.

RE: trip coverage, more $ than I believe constitutes a no brainer....but fortunately didn't need

I will definitely continue to use "Insure My Trip" services when travelling

Allianz Global Assistance Classic Trip Plus
I did an extensive cost-analysis, comparing several companies and based on the price and customer reviews (plus the long history of the company) and ratings with the BB this was definitely the best plan. I especially appreciated the thorough and easy-to-understand package (with highlighted contact information) provided via email (that I could refer to or print). It helped reduce a large amount of stress traveling abroad. Will definitely purchase again!

Allianz Global Assistance Basic
We were very fortunate, that we had no delays, missed flights or lost luggage for this trip to Europe. We went on a river cruise & one couples luggage didn't arrive for 6 days. The airline knew the luggage was in Amsterdam but made no attempts to get luggage to customers sooner. Another couple on a past trip fell on slippery cobble stones from rain & wife broke wrist & elbow on opposite arms. Required surgery & 13K to pay before leaving hospital. Several other couples with lost luggage for shorter periods on this trip also. None of the couples mentioned had insurance.
We have had delays over 24 hrs, lost luggage up to 3 months, etc on past trips. air travel today is so "Not fun" that chances are greater that something is going to happen eventually. we never took out insurance in the past but now we do, just worth it to know assistance is available if you need it.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
We were unhappy to find out this insurance did not cover denied visa because there has been a lot of trouble getting visas approved to China. Otherwise it was seemingly good, but we bought it in hopes of covering us incase of visa denial and later learned it would not have helped.

    We are sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip because you were unable to receive your travel visa prior to your scheduled departure date. Since this was not listed as a "covered reason" in your Nationwide Essential plan, there would be no reimbursement under your Trip Cancellation coverage. "Covered Reasons", which vary from plan to plan, may be reviewed prior to purchase by clicking on the dollar amount of Trip Cancellation coverage within the quote.

    Reimbursement would have been available to you if you had purchased a policy that included "Cancel for Any Reason". Subject to the policy's terms and conditions, CFAR allows you to cancel your trip for other than a covered reason. In the future, you may wish to call Customer Care at 800-487-4722 for assistance with a CFAR quote.

I was in Guatemala when a volcano erupted. I did not have disruption of my plans, but I appreciated the fact that insure my trip was aware of my location and sent me an email advising me to contact them if needed. Nice bit of reassurance.
