Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
The Nationwide Essential Plan worked well as to coverage and cost. However, it took about 2 months to receive compensation for losses. I had to re-submit twice some of the documents because they were on the website in my emails and the format was not what they could read. So be careful to save all trip documents and in a PDF format or at least a Word format so they can read them. It took 2-3 weeks the first time before they even contacted me about re-submitting some of the claims, then another 2 weeks for the second round. Finally, I hadn't heard anything for 2 weeks or so again, and a check shows up in the mail. So the plan works but you have to be very patient to get your coverage if you have a loss.

Purchased this plan after shopping around. Thank goodness we didn’t need to use it but we had the peace of mind knowing it was there if needed. Purchase was seamless and documents send quickly via email. Would definately use again.

Well, it seemed like the plan offered the coverage I wanted and needed. But I didn't have a claim. Having filed a claim once before (with a different company), I can say that a claim is where the rubber meets the road and where one finds out more about the company than if you just rent their insurance for a while and don't have a claim. So, no complaints about Nationwide Mutual, and the coverage seemed reasonable and reasonably priced. But no claim experience. (The program forces you to choose a satisfaction rating, which is too bad, because I was satisfied, so I gave them 5 stars, didn't seem right to punish them, but it doesn't mean much when there's no claim. Really, there should be a "not applicable" or "no claim" choice for the satisfaction rating.)

It fit the need we had. My husband and I have different addresses though and I wish that we could all be on the same policy- as it is, my daughter and I are on one and he has to have his own- that is a hassle and unnecessary expense.

Too many times something happens that interrupts or has you cancel your trip. I’ve had to use trip insurance twice over the past 20 years. Those refunds have paid for all my insurance buys (about 12). Not willing to take a trip without it.
