Since we didn't have any reason to file a claim, we can't comment on how well it would have worked. But the price was the best we could find, and we felt more secure knowing that we had a policy.

We did not encounter any problems on our trip, but having the policy gave us piece of mind in cause something did happen.

Well . . . since insurance is basically defined as the insurance company betting that I won't have a problem, and me betting that I will . . . I paid a reasonable amount for what I considered to be a good product that covered what I would need in case there were any issues.

I recently took a luxury trip to Tahiti. The policy cost me just over $1,400. The trip was interrupted and delayed by a aircraft maintenance issue. The missed flight resulted in a cost of over $5,000 for alternative transportation, and a missed night up at the Four Season's ($2,000). AIG Travel Insurance does not cover aircraft maintenance issues, and would only cover $100 of the night which cost me $2,000. AIG Travel Insurance won't pay your claim. Don't use them. Very unhappy with their poor insurance service and their policy is a joke. Don't waste your money on these expensive policies, since they'll find a way not to pay you on a claim. Also keep in mind for luxury travel, most of these travel insurance agencies will first make your homeowners policies to pay first, and they are the secondary. In this case, they just would not pay for the trip interruption and delay. Buyer beware, don't buy policies from AIG Travel Insurance.

Thank you for providing a review to assist your fellow travelers. As you indicated, AIG Travel Guard, per the Terms and Conditions of the policy, was only able to pay 100 USD since there was no coverage for mechanical breakdown in the Basic plan for Trip Interruption and limited coverage under Travel Delay. It is never pleasing to hear that only a portion of your claim has been paid, but it does gives us the opportunity to impress on your fellow travelers that they should review the terms of the plan prior to purchase or within the policy review period. Please click on "View Certificate" in your quote to read all the terms and conditions or call Customer Care at (800) 487-4722 to review the plans.

I spoke to the director of claims today at AIG Travel Insurance. She said that AIG pays out over 90 percent of the claims. When I asked her what percentage of the claim request amount was paid, she refused to answer. In other words, I paid 50 for a luxury trip I wanted insured, and only got 0. She considers this a paid claim. How many claims are underpaid ? When I asked her why a aircraft maintenance issue wasn't covered, she said weather was covered. When I mentioned all the other factors which delay or cancel flights, she said those would not be covered. So if you're late on a flight from air traffic control delay, or any other delay, that is not weather related, you are out of luck. I also ask her how many claims were made, in terms of policies sold. Again, she refused to answer. I left the conversation even more confused than before. What is travel insurance for, if they're not going to cover a trip delay, interruption, or cancellation ? Read your policy carefully before purchasing. Once again, your homeowners or medical insurance is the primary (you may already be covered), and any travel insurance you purchase, will be secondary insurance. And guess what, they make you document that, so your chances of getting paid your requested claim, are virtually nil.

        - travel delay - statistics show around 24 percent of flights are canceled or delayed per month. only .7 percent due to weather.

        - satisfaction guaranteed - but only within 15 day period after purchase (not after you have been denied claims or underpaid claims). I requested a refund on my policy, which was promptly denied, since my 15 day Looking Period had expired, even before my trip was completed. So, in other words, your satisfaction is not guaranteed, because your Looking Period will have expired even before you file a claim.

Fortunately we did not have to use the insurance, but the policy was cost effect and had excellent value. Process was handled very professionally.

The plan did cover my emergency dental expenses which I incurred in Maui, but it took a long time to be reimbursed, and I had to have InsureMyTrip contact Travel Guard to follow up for payment. After that call, my claim was finally processed, and paid at 100%.

I purchased this policy on 12/26/10 for a trip on 06/30/11
On 06/24/11 Air Tahiti Nui (the carrier we were flying)
pilot union issued a five day notice of intent to strike.
Upon contacting Travel Guard to inquire coverage of this event, I was informed that Air Tahiti Nui was on
their exempt "strike list" This so called list did NOT appear in their eleven page description of coverage.
It was located in a drop down menu on their web site. Deceptive practice #1
After speaking with a Travel Guard rep I was informed
Air Tahiti Nui was listed because of an unresolved strike dating back to 5/10.
After speaking with an attorney who was familiar with
French labor union law his research found that the 5/10 labor dispute was indeed officially resolved.
The Travel Guard rep was misinformed.
Our policy should have covered this new strike.
Bottom line is this company needs to make clear in their description of coverage of this list on exempted carriers. If it had I would have not purchased it.
This whole experience brought on a week of unnecessary stress before our trip.
The airline did go on strike but covered the flights with a chartered plane from a sister carrier.
I will NOT use your site for future travel insurance needs before I receive an apology and explanation from Travel Guard.
This was a miserable experience. Not to be repeated.

When using the comparison tool on our site, there is a section called 'Travel Supplier Restrictions'. If you click on details, it will show you which carriers are restricted by the insurance company. In this case, Air Tahiti is listed there under the Travel Guard plans.

Plan seemed fair and offered most of what we wanted. Thankfully, we did not have to submit a claim so can't comment on handling any issues.
