The claim process was inordinately complicated and onerous. However, after we had jumped through all the (many) hoops, the claim was honored.

I tried to file a claim. The business I booked my hotels under informed me of their cease and desist order the day before I left for my international trip and I had to desperately look for hotel rooms. I was told it was not covered and was offered no help in finding new rooms. I am still trying to get reimbursed for the original rooms from my credit card company. Would not use this company again.

    Thank you for your review. Unfortunately your Generali Standard policy did not include coverage for a Financial Default. We also forwarded your email to Generali who replied as follows:

    "We're sorry to hear about the circumstances surrounding your experience and for not meeting your expectations. We want our customers to understand the coverage details of our plans and stress the importance of reviewing these details via the sample Description of Coverage/Insurance Policy that’s provided at the time of purchase, and contacting (800) 348-9505 or csa@csatravelprotection.com with additional questions. The plan you purchased includes a variety of covered events under which we can provide coverage if an actual covered event forces you to cancel your trip. Unfortunately it does not provide coverage for financial insolvency."

Not sure how relevant a review is since I didn't have to file a claim but it was reassuring to know that I had coverage IF I had needed it. I always buy a plan before I travel - just in case. The cost was reasonable and the coverage was more than adequate. Thanks.

We make it a practice to obtain travel insurance to mitigate risk for circumstances beyond our control when we've booked expensive trips. Generally the concern is that our elderly parents could develop a sudden illness that might require canceling travel plans we've made months in advance. However, we recently experienced travel delays due to pilot strikes (British Airways) and train strikes (France) that could have resulted in missing an expensive pre-booked multi-week bicycle tour. Fortunately, in spite of delays we were able to get to our destination with little time to spare. During the delay I called our insurance provider to discuss our options and was relieved to discover the extensive resources available to help us, and learned that we would be covered for expenses incurred should we need to rebook our plans. The simple comfort that came from knowing we were covered more than justified the expense of our travel insurance.

When my husband's wallet was stolen in Paris I called the insurance company number to see if they could offer any help and was to receive a claim report via email which was never received. There wasn't much help they could actually provide other than offering to loan some cash, which we didn't need.
