Was hospitalized for food poisoning. Had to first file a claim with health insurance to determine was travel insurance would pay. Lots of documentation that I didn't have such as invoice for airline ticket purchased in foreign country. Luckily, when I asked for it through the credit card company and the airline didn't respond, the credit card company treated it as a disputed charge and gave me a credit.
Just make sure that you get every kind of documentation you can when you are there such as hospital records, receipts for cab rides, etc!

    It's unfortunate that you came down with food poisoning during your trip, but we trust that the discomfort is gone and your excellent health has returned.

    Although no one wants to plan for a claim before it happens, Generali, as well as most of our other providers, have a website for those travelers wishing to file a claim online:

    We recommend that you visit the travel insurer's website before you travel and review the claims information provided. Along with including claim forms for you to complete and submit, Generali also provides you with a list other documents that may be needed when submitting a claim. Please just remember that documentation varies depending upon the type of claim you're filing and depending upon the event that resulted in your loss.

    Thank you for your inquiry. Since Comprehensive plan premiums are generally based on the traveler's age, trip cost and length of trip, it is not surprising that your friends' premiums were different then your premium. In addition, there were also many policies to choose from with varying amounts of coverage and terms and conditions. You chose the Generali Preferred which was very competitively priced even though it was one of the most benefit enriched plans with high limits and more covered reasons to cancel the trip than offered by most plans.

When I had to contact the company to make changes prior to leaving on my trip, sadly the phone rep I talked to was not at all helpful when I posed a question to him. His tone was uncalled for. Since this was my first time using this company’s plan, I don’t think I would be likely to recommend this company to others, nor do I think I will use them again when I purchase insurance.

Our claim, based on the French rail strike, was paid in full and very promptly, with no questions or difficulty whatsoever. We now use Generali for all our trip insurance. We're impressed by the coverage for the price, and the great claim response.

I'm actually not sure if this was a good plan or not because the communication from the people I spoke with was so convoluted. My travel was caught in the Japan multiple disasters of the worst Typhoon in decades and the Earthquake. I was stuck at the airport, my lodging and trip was in question and the two people I spoke with were indirect about my options to the point of being rude. I never got a straight answer whether I was covered or not. One person said, "we don't cover any losses from a little rain." This was a national disaster! The airport was shut down. People died. I was horrified. I asked to speak with another person and he said, "I can't do that." I hung up and called back and got another person who was a bit better but still very convoluted in her response. "Well, we can't say, but you can file a claim."

In the end, I made my trip, 2 different plane bookings later; I was 2 days late - but the hotels did not charge me. I lost a little money on plane flights but decided it was not worth the hassle with these people. I definitely do not recommend.
