I'm a US citizen over 65 and on Medicare which does not provide any medical coverage outside the US (except for the once in a life time $50K amount provided by my supplemental plan) I chose this Gold plan for it's PRIMARY medical coverage for a one month trip to New Zealand. Fortunately I did not have to file any claims, so I cannot rate the service. Plan was competitively priced for features and coverage.

As always, when we purchase insurance, we hope that it won't be needed! And that was the case with this policy. The coverage offered seemed excellent, though, and we have other insurance with John Hancock that we have been happy with, so we would recommend this product.

Nothing went wrong, so really can't comment on how well the plan was or on John Hancock policies are. Seemed adequate when we bought it, thankfully, we didn't have t use it.

We had a claim based on an ear infection and sudden illness my daughter developed during the trip. The claim forms were very confusing as most of it didn't apply well to our situation. I informed the insurance company of the claim on the day we saw the doctor at the resort and the person I spoke to assured me we were covered. We would have taken our daughter to the doctor anyway - but I wanted to make sure I informed the company if that was going to be required. As soon as we returned from the trip I submitted a claim in writing. It was rejected and I was asked to first submit my claim to our health insurance provider in the states. When I received that company's response, I was finally able to submit a full claim under the travel insurance policy. It took about three months to get our claim paid. I will use travel insurance again, but I was under the impression the travel policy provided primary coverage for the medical claim, so I was irritated to have to make a claim through our usual carrier. However, it worked out in the end - just not real quickly. People who easily get discouraged and put off may not have carried the claim all the way through and gotten paid. I always send correspondence to insurance companies by certified mail. Another hassle, but it avoids a contention that your documents weren't received.

    Thank you very much for providing this information for your fellow travelers. There is no doubt that claims forms may be confusing to complete, but it's good to know that you were fully reimbursed for your medical expenses by the insurance company. You should also keep in mind that InsureMyTrip has advocates that are available to assist in the future should you need help on a claim.

Didn't need to use the plan, so hard to say much other than it seemed well priced for what you received in coverage and receiving / managing the coverage credentials was easy. The insure my trip app that had the plan loaded into it was great.

Obviously the hope is you never need to use it and it's only insurance. Would likely buy again depending on current rates and coverages.

    I filed a claim 22 days ago and have heard nothing, AND on top of that, it was a "cancel for any reason" claim!
    They will never get my business again.

      John Hancock claims department issued Evan's check on April 14, 2017, so he should shortly be receiving payment. Please keep in mind that John Hancock asks claimants to allow up to 30 days after they receive the paperwork for them to review and settle the claim.
