My wife and I purchased travel insurance for our two week trip to Greece. With an elderly mother and all of the crazy things going on in the world, the policy gave us peace of mind that we wouldn't lose our travel investment if something unexpected happened. Fortunately, we had an uneventful, but fabulous trip to beautiful Greece!

Thankfully we did not need to file a claim during this trip. However, we did have to cancel a trip earlier in the year due to some unexpected medical issues and the claims process was pretty simple. I think we had the entire trip cost back in our hands in about 10 days with no bureaucracy, questions or delays. We will definitely use them again.

I have always bought trip insurance and wondered about the value. Unfortunately, this trip we did need assistance and had to file a claim. My wife fell down the stairs on the third day of our 15 day cruise from Sydney to Singapore. She fractured her pelvis in four places and suffered internal bleeding. The ship's team handled the emergency well until we anchored at Airlie Beach. The local EMTs called a helicopter for a forty minute flight from the ship to a hospital in Mackay, Australia. At admission, the hospital made it clear that I personally would be responsible for payment. But by the third day, Seven Corners Assist had contacted the hospital financial office arranging for a guarantee of payment for what turned out to be almost three weeks in the hospital including a surgery. Seven Corners Assist arranged for flights back to North Carolina in lie-flat seating for my wife, even sending an escort to accompany us. A former EMT, he was very well versed medically, and very experienced in handling the challenges encountered in our 30 hour return trip. I was able to tend to my wife while he handled the aggravations of the airports and airline.

Insurance promptly paid the direct hospital billing and return travel to enable us to leave the hospital. Personal expenses and trip interruption reimbursements were a challenge, with misplaced claims paperwork requiring several follow-up calls. It dragged four months, but after electronically resubmitting receipts, we received full refund of all our expenses. We certainly appreciated the assistance we received while in the throes of our emergency given the14 hour time difference, and during our trip home; and for the final settlement of our claim. I recommend this policy for the emergency support received and final settlement.

Thankfully I didn't have to submit any claims with this insurance. However the Insure My Trip site makes it very easy to navigate and narrow down the options based on your particular situation and travel needs. The mobile app is great and easily provided peace of mind of local emergency contact information and details on your plan should you need it.
Highly recommended.

Trip insurance is part of every travel budget my wife and I put together, and we travel quite a bit. As we know people who have horror stories of extreme medical needs when traveling overseas we buy the maximum coverage available, and the policies from John Hancock have given us complete piece of mind. Rarely do we never need to use it, but for the couple of occasions when we did the coverage far exceeded the seemingly high up front cost of buying it in the first place. We wouldn't travel these days without it.

While the plan itself may be good (don't know if it is or not since I never had to use it) there needs to be a better way to handle policy extensions. Here's our story. We purchased coverage to cover us from 8/17/17 thru 9/3/17 while we were traveling in Costa Rica. Due to Hurricane Harvey our return flight from San Jose, Costa Rica to Houston, Texas for 9/3/17 was cancelled by our airline. I attempted to contact someone at the phone numbers provided and either didn't get an answer or the requested return call regarding extending the policy end date was never returned. Our return flight finally took place on 9/7/17 which left us without any coverage for 4 days. Luckily we managed without the extended coverage. So given that situation, what should we do the next time? Purchase 10 days extra coverage just in case something like that happens again and then apply for a refund of the unused coverage if we're able to return to the US as scheduled?

For the third time I have returned from a trip without needing to access the claims benefits under my policy and I am grateful for that. The peace of mind in having this coverage and knowing that there is somewhere to call if anything had gone wrong is of significant value to me. The people I have worked with at InsureMy Trip are knowledgeable and responsive and, of course, the next time I travel, I will purchase another policy.
