In business since 1926, Nationwide focuses on providing the best possible service for its customers. Nationwide travel insurance plans offer a range of innovative benefits for a variety of travel needs.
The coverage was OK but we were tripped up by the small print. READ IT. READ IT, READ IT, BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER TRAVEL. In middle of trip to Europe one of our party (all vaccinated and boosted) contracted mild Covid. CDC and local health recommendations stated "if you test positive on a lateral flow test but do not feel very ill, self isolate to protect yourself and others and do not travel or mix closely with people in public places until you have most likely cleared the infection, 5 days later, or subsequent tests prove negative. Unless you feel very ill, there is no need to see a doctor". We followed this official advice, canceled one flight and rebooked another for later as well as incurred hotel and other expenses. Assumed this would be covered by Trip Interruption protection. It was not. Despite what official sources say, the insurance policy required a doctor's visit (easy getting an appointment in a pandemic, huh?), a PCR test and an official letter from the doctor advising you not to travel. We did not do this and it cost us about six hundred dollars in change fees, hotel and incidentals. This simply underscores why you should always read the policy carefully to make sure in an emergency you are complying 100% with the policy's terms; common sense is not a substitute for rigid compliance. After a phone call to the claims department I concluded that filing a claim was simply a waste of time . Note: I don't think this is specific to Nationwide.

We filed a claim that took a long time to process (due to lots of COVID-19 claims being filed), but the company kept us informed about the process and why there was a delay. Also, the claims process was fairly easy. They reimbursed us for the entire claim. I would use them again.

Grumble, grumble,
I filed a claim for an Interrupted trip in May. NW requested additional info on July 9, 2022. I sent the info the next day. On Aug 22 I called and they confirmed that they had the info but the 60 day processing clock restarts with the additional info. Called again today 9/9/22 and the claim has not been processed. They will label for "Expedited audit" which should take 2-3 more weeks. I have purchased several Luxury Cruise policies and NW customer treatment is very poor. Once they get the additional info the clock should not start over. I am booking another cruise next week. Can you recommend a company with a comparable policy that has better customer service?
Thx
UPDATE Dec 6, 2022
My original claim was denied so I filed an appeal. On October 10 they asked for further documentation. I supplied the info on October 12th. As of Dec 6th I still do not have a disposition. I called Coordinated Benefits Plan (CPB) for an update and their systems have been down for two days. How is this any way to run a business?
UDATE Dec 7, 20022
CBP computers down for a 3rd day. They took my phone number and said they would call me when systems are back up. I decided to call Nationwide Customer Relations and opened a complaint. The agent will notify the proper insurance group at Nationwide of the delays and will call me back within two days. Stay tuned.
Final update 12/8/2022
Received an email from CBP that my claim will be paid in full. It shouldn't take 9 months to resolve a simple claim such as this one. At this point it is not delays related to the Covid shut down. Maybe they should have an Operations Mgr look at their workflow. Happy Holidays...

This is the second time I have used insuremytrip for international travels. With the unexpected issues from COVID and government requirements. It is comforting to know I have someone to help with expenses in case I need to isolate and help to protect my travel costs.

We booked a trip to London on at the end of January for travel in mid-June. We purchased this policy on January 31, when covid-19 had yet to be named or determined to be a pandemic . Due to the UK's continued shutdown through the spring and the UK's 14 day mandatory quarantine policy, Delta cancelled our flight in late May. We filed a claim with Delta, who fully refunded our air travel. We filed a claim with Nationwide to recover our non-fundable deposit on the London flat that we made in January. The claim was denied since covid-19 was not a named peril in the policy (well it was January 2020 with less than a handful of cases in the US) and the policy supposedly did not cover cancellation by the airline. If we couldn't fly to London, how were we going to get there!? We had a Travelex travel insurance policy 10 years ago that completely reimbursed us for a cruise that we were unable to get to because Delta cancelled our flight due to a massive east coast Christmas snow storm. I don't believe a snow storm was a peril listed in the policy. I will never buy another Nationwide travel insurance policy and would not recommend to others. They are definitely NOT on you side.

They state on their website they are refunding for canceled trips without claims due to Covid. It is been 10 weeks and I have not received anything except excuses. I will not purchase from them again.

I am happy to see that Nationwide did refund your premium. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and current climate of traveling this request did take much longer than usual.
We hope you will reach out to us at InsureMyTrip for future travel insurance needs.
