When I purchased the plan I had paid for the air fare and the deposit on the tour portion. Since I was anxious to have pre-existing medical condition coverage I immediately purchased the insurance, with the understanding that I could increase the face value amount of the policy when I paid for the remainder of the trip. However, when I paid for the remainder of the trip and contacted you to appropriately increase my coverage, the cost of the additional insurance was at a much much higher rate - frankly unbelievable - and there was nothing I could do so I paid it. I was held hostage in order to have pre-existing condition converage. I am sure that the insurance was good and was valuable, but its COST was prohibitive, unreasonable, and took very bad advantage of me.

    Each insurance provider determines their own rates subject to the approval of the state's insurance department. Many of our providers do not use a flat rate. Some providers charge a higher rate at the lower range of trip cost, while other providers charge a higher rate at the upper ranges of trip cost. We generally encourage our customers to quote at your total expected trip cost so you can review the final premium in advance.

I bought "cancel for any reason" trip insurance. The tour company I was going with went out of business. Nationwide denied my claim saying the reason wasn't a covered expense! Even though I paid extra for "cancel for any reason" insurance. The tour company went out of business! I resubmitted the claim and they paid it, but only at 75%. I should have read the policy more carefully - 75% when you buy their best insurance policy isn't acceptable.

    We are sorry to hear that Nationwide initially denied your claim. As the claims representative stated, there is no coverage under Trip Cancellation in the Nationwide Prime plan if your travel provider goes out of business.

    However, you did purchase the optional "Cancel for Any Reason" coverage which reimburses you if you cancel your trip for "other than a covered reason".

    As you stated, travelers should always take time to review the policy terms and conditions. None of the plans on our website offer Cancel for Any Reason at 100 per cent reimbursement. We welcome you to call Customer Care at (800) 487-4722 for assistance when quoting or purchasing a policy.

Always a good idea to get travel insurance. You never know what may happen. Over the past 5 years I have had to make 3 claims- all for different reason, but was so glad the insurance covered it all.

I needed to evacuate and leave for my trip early due to hurricane Florence . I tried to call and ask if there was any help. I was on hold an excessive period so I hung up (I needed to keep contacting the airline as well as prepare my house.) . The airline changed my flight and I had about 15 hrs notice that I needed to leave the next morning - 3 days early. As soon as I caught my breathe, I texted from the airport (before I left the country) and stated I was leaving 3 days early. I was told my policy would cover nothing for the next 3 days. Fortunately, I had no claims (as I never do) but it left a very bad taste in my mouth that there was no attempt to ease my anxiety. I will not use your company again

Upon reviewing our correspondence, we can see that you kept us updated on your situation while our representative answered your questions. However, we are sorry that we were unable to reduce your anxiety.

    Perhaps in the future you will consider giving both Nationwide and InsureMyTrip a second chance.

Thankfully, I did not have to use the insurance for any purpose. As most people know, you never truly know how good your insurance is until you must use it; it is then that you find out how easy it is to use and what exactly they will cover. So, I can't really say how good it was. The ratings would be more useful coming from people who actually had to use it for some reason. I can only say that I felt more comfortable traveling by myself knowing that I had insurance which I believed would cover me if the worst happened.
