The airline I booked my flights with began changing flight times a few weeks before my departure. They must have changed one or more of my six connecting flights, to and from my destination daily. At some points it was obvious I would not have enough time to get to the connecting flight gate. I thought the trip would be over before it started. Luckily I had bought insurance soon after booking the flight. As luck would have it the final flight times made it possible to make every connection and the trip went as planned. A little assurance for the unexpected helped stop a lot of panic and disappointment.

Buyer beware of the waiting period for this travel insurance. We purchased this policy on a Sunday for a trip starting in 6 days on the upcoming Saturday. We found out on Monday morning that a family member passed away on Sunday night so we proceeded to cancel our plan tickets, tours, etc to mourn, spend time with our family, and prepare for the funeral. I filed a claim for reimbursement of non-refundable fees like our plane ticket, museum tickets, etc. We just found out that our claim was denied since the policy did not start until 12:01 AM the next day. Our family member passed away at 11:58 PM on Sunday (3 minutes before the policy was in effect on Monday). Be aware that you will not be covered until the waiting period is over, even when faced with a tragic circumstance like the passing of a family member.

While the Trip Cancellation coverage included in the plan you purchased can typically provide coverage if you are forced to cancel your trip due to the unforeseen sickness or injury of yourself, a traveling companion or family member, your coverage must be in place before the sickness first commences or takes an unforeseen worsening in order for the plan to provide coverage. I needed to make a change in the dates of coverage, as we left a day earlier than originally planned. I submitted the change form about a week before my departure. I received a phone call several days later, which I was unavailable to answer at the time. I called the person back at the number she provided and left numerous messages for her to get back to me, which she never did. Finally in desperation, I called the number for claims because we were leaving the next day and reached someone who was able to make the change and process the additional payment required. This is the first company that charged me extra for an additional day, and their communication was very poor when I needed to reach them. I don’t plan to use this company again.

I had two issues with this plan. (1) I originally purchased it for an August trip. The event I was flying down for got postponed, so I canceled the plan, and they told me I could get it reinstated when the event got rescheduled, by sending them an exception letter. When it got rescheduled, I sent them an exception letter and they offered to reinstate it for more than the price of the original insurance. That was nonsense, because I could buy an entirely new plan for less than that... which I ended up doing.

(2) The second time the event again got postponed. Because I had already flown down to Long Beach for the event, I claimed expenses, but they denied all of my claims. They said I would get an email explanation shortly but it has been more than a week and I have not received an explanation.
