It was our first in 10 years vacation, which my husband and I decided to spend in Rome, Italy celebrating our 30 years of marriage. Unfortunately, it was spoiled by the fact that my luggage was lost, and we had to spend first 2 out of 7 days of our vacation trying to find an inexpensive place to buy something that I needed, not knowing when and even if I ever receive my luggage… My husband and I are very disappointed by the way how TruTravel Insurance handled this issue. It took me too much time and effort to get even part of my money back from the company, as I was inaccurately informed about our coverage. I felt that I had to provide so much additional information (besides receipts from the stores, boarding passes, papers from the Airport at Rome, etc. etc…) that I was doing the job that the Company should be doing for the money we paid upfront buying the policy.

Almost 3 months from the time we filed a claim (worth $6000) we have finally received all our money from Tru Travel. It was a very daunting experience. Everytime there was any communication from us they had 15 business days to respond. They were almost never in touch and the one time they were it was with an email that could not be copied,forwarded or converted to a PDF.Once I answered it the email simply disappeared.I've never seen anything like it.When I called the company about it, they laughed.When I called they stated it was not assigned but someone had sent that email so I didn't understand. We had to go through extreme measures to prove our tickets had been canceled and finally, in two stages they did send all the money. The fact that it was so complicated to work with these people, the fact that they were never personally in touch made it so hard to deal with them. Delay after delay was so difficult. They did pay in full finally and we are glad to be done We would not use them again.

InsureMyTrip website was recommended by our local Consumer Advocate, Clark Howard. We selected TruTravel Premier due to the availability of comprehensive plan with "Cancel for Any Reason" option and the fact that it was Nationwide, a reputable company. We are not experienced travelers and asked a lot of questions in multiple calls / emails. The representatives were very helpful in helping us select appropriate coverage as multi-generational family members from different addresses (same state) but traveling together. The application process was fairly easy, and it was great to have an immediate printout and website of the policy and emergency contact info. Thankfully, we did not need it. I have already recommended the plan to a coworker. Thank you for a pleasant experience.

Are returning flight was delayed resulting in a missed connection getting back home. I expected to have coverage for luggage delay but was told policy didn't cover this...only hotel and meal costs. Also, even though I submitted the claim in my name and paid in full on my credit card one of the checks was made out to my traveling companion.

We didn’t have to use this, which is a good thing. It gave us peace of mind for our trip to South Africa. We usually purchase travel insurance for our long trips to foreign countries. The cost was very fair and communication was good with TruTravel. We would purchase again for future trips.

Most travel insurance providers allow you to access your claim forms online. Since we cannot stress enough that it is very important to save your receipts and proof of expenses so that you can be accurately reimbursed, you may even wish to familiarize yourself with these documents prior to your departure.
