Sr. Systems Administrator

Position Summary

As part of our team, the Systems Administrator will be critical in ensuring 24×7 up-time of our networks, corporate servers, and e-commerce business while improving our processes as we prepare to go to the cloud and an Infrastructure as Code platform. To be successful you will have strong experience in Ubuntu Linux systems administration. You will have familiarity or experience working in a complex software engineering DevSecOps/IT infrastructure that involves development, staging, and production environments with continuous integration/automated deployments. You should be interested in new technologies and be able to build and deploy innovative solutions to help business and development operations. Day to Day Duties

Working with ISPs to Maintain 24x7 Uptime

Designing and Deploying Networks and Subnets

Speccing Out Hardware and Generating Budgets for Server Resources

Building, Administering, and Pen/Load Testing Firewalls, Loadbalancers, and VPNs

Building Bare-metal Servers and Installing Virtualization Environments (Qemu KVM)

Building and Administering ZFS/NFS/Samba Servers

Building, Configuring, and Maintaining Ubuntu Linux Servers

Deploying and Maintaining OpenLDAP Servers

Maintaining Internal DNS (PowerDNS) and Updating External DNS (AWS Route53) Servers

Installing Server Updates in an HA Environment with Multiple Integrations

Installing, Administering, and Securing Databases (MariaDB, MySQL)

Installing and Administering Application Servers (E.g. Jira, Confluence, Sisense, Quickbooks, ELK Stack)

Installing and Administering Configuration Management (GitLab)

Creating and Installing SSL Certificates in Apache and NGINX

Updating and Testing Existing Disaster Recovery Procedures with Drills

Installing, Configuring, and Responding to System Health Tools (Nagios, Munin)

Analyzing Access and Error Logs and Network Traffic Reports

Writing Automation Scripts/Playbooks (BASH, Python/PHP, and Ansible)

Documenting System Inventories and Processes (Confluence, Google Docs/Sheets, Lucidcharts)

Sharing Work Statuses using Agile Project Management Tools (Jira) in a Kanban Workflow


5+ years of experience with HA Ubuntu Linux Systems Administration

In-depth knowledge of networking and Internet technologies

Understanding of GDPR, PCI-DSS and/or working with sensitive data

Self-learner with strong written and verbal communication skills

Able to participate in scheduled, after-hours, and on-call maintenance

Meet deadlines or correct course at first sign of blockers


High Availability Experience (DRBD, Heartbeat/Corosync, Pacemaker)

Containerization and IaC Experience (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.)

Cloud Experience (AWS, GCP, etc.)

GitLab CI/CD Pipeline Experience

SQL Query Experience (MySQL)

NoSQL Database Administration Experience (Mongo, Redis, Aerospike)

Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Certification
