With a network that includes over 80 percent of physicians and 90 percent of hospitals across the United States, GeoBlue provides travel medical insurance with a powerful name behind it.

GeoBlue is a trade name of Worldwide Insurance Services, LLC (Worldwide Services Insurance Agency, LLC in California and New York), an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Their plans are underwritten by 4 Ever Life International Limited. The business is headquartered in Bermuda.

You will have access to their translation tools, allowing you to communicate your symptoms and medical history to doctors in your area, even if they don’t speak your language. And most importantly, GeoBlue offers a mobile app that allows you to find providers that are members of their expansive network.

At GeoBlue, they understand that overseas medical bills can get a bit pricey. So they have created the Direct Pay program that allows you to take the stress out of medical bills while traveling abroad. It’s simple to use – prior to making an appointment with a medical provider, contact GeoBlue through their 24-hour phone line, email or GeoBlue mobile app. They will help assist you make an appointment with a medical provider in their network. Because the appointment was made by them they will pay for any covered medical expenses directly.

While the GeoBlue network does have outlets around the globe, it may not reach where you are traveling. In this case, you can, of course, use a medical provider outside of their network, but the medical coverage will be secondary to your primary health insurance plan, if required by the plan you purchase.

Seemed a great plan for the money but of course didn't claim on it so that would be the full test to whether it was a great plan or not. Would use them again.

The plan gave me a level of comfort knowing I had coverage, or at least purchased coverage. However, while being in Japan I began to realize that it would not be very easy to go to a suggested provider of services in the event I needed it. Almost all transportation in Japan is by bus, train, etc. I have no idea about the cost of a taxi. I actually didn't even see one. My only point is be aware that getting to a provider will not be as easy as it might seem which means you may (or may not) be responsible for the costs anyway.
