Fortunately I did not need to put in a claim, so I can't address that aspect of the plan at all. I chose it because it had the best coverage for the price on the features that were most important to me (medical coverage, and emergency evacuation coverage).

Forms were a bit complicated and "Patiient Authorization" form intrusive. However, I called and told the rep that my travel companion refused to fill it out. The rep told me to go ahead and file the claim without it. I received full reimbursement for my losses, so I am not complaining. Called customer service a couple of other times, and the reps were all very helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Very good service. As far as price of coverage goes, this is the first time I bought a policy with preexisting condition waiver. So I really have no authority to judge. Travelling to Russia and at my age of 73, I didn't see any more than 2 companies with Insure My Trip offering such coverage. Might have been the only one. If there were 2, this was the cheaper one.

Bought the plan for wife and self months ahead of trip.
Our plane connect in Pittsburgh was delayed in disembarking at the gate because the gates were all full due to inclement weather. My claim clearly explained this but Generali denied it because they called it a "gate delay" and not a weather delay. We were clearly delayed and told by the airline the delay was due to inclement weather.

This was an egregious denial to call a major rainstorm delay a gate delay!!!

The claim was finally paid but only after a denial or two and a several more back and forth emails with InsureMyTrip.

Didn't need to use but nice to know it was there if needed. They had a car rental coverage which was also nice and provided peace of mind as you never know what may happen when abroad.

I bought this insurance in case I was not allowed into Canada, when I talked to the sales person they, told me that if I wanted to cancel for any reason I had to cancel two days before departure... that, in no way would help me if I was not allowed into Canada....... so it really isn't a cancel for any reason policy.

    This Generali Standard plan does not include Cancel for Any Reason. Although there were many plans that offered that option, you were not eligible since you purchased the policy more than 21 days after your initial trip payment.

    Cancel for Any Reason truly allows you to cancel your trip for any reason that is not covered by the policy. However, there are 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider:

    Purchase the policy within 14-21 days of your Initial Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; and Cancel your trip more than 48 hours or 2 days prior to departure date.

We purchased this plan for a trip we were planning to go on in Germany. The trip involved a river cruise on the Rhine River. Five days before we were to leave, we were notified by our travel agent that Emerald Waterways had notified him that the trip was cancelled due to low water levels in the river. We received a full refund from Emerald Waterways for the trip, a refund from British Airways and Emerald Waterways is covering the penalty for cancelling the flight. The only money we are out is what we paid to you to cover a trip that never happened. We contacted you and were told that we could use the insurance for an alternative trip in 500 days. Our trip in 2019 is already covered and we cannot travel during the time period that we would still have your insurance. It is ironic that the one thing we bought to cover us if we had to cancel our trip or had a snag in our trip is the one thing that is costing us money when the trip was cancelled by the cruise line.
