Tokio Marine HCC Medical Insurance Services Atlas International

The Tokio Marine HCC Atlas International is a single-trip travel medical plan available to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens who are traveling outside of their home country, but not within the U.S. Your primary health insurance may not fully cover you while you are traveling abroad, and this plan can help to fill in those coverage gaps.

You are able to customize your plan by selecting the medical limit that best fits your needs. The available medical limits are $50,000; $100,000; $250,000; $500,000; $1,000,000 and $2,000,000. The maximum medical limit for travelers between the ages 70-79 is $150,000. For travelers 80 years-old or older, the maximum limit is $10,000.

Trip interruption benefits can help with the cost of an economy one-way air or ground transportation back home. Covered reasons for trip interruption are destruction to more than 40% of your principal residence by fire or weather (after departure from home country) as well as the death of a parent, spouse, sibling, child or grandchild. Another travel protection coverage this plan offers is baggage protection. It provides coverage of up to $1,000 for replacement of clothes and personal hygiene items if your bag is lost during transit.

Incidental Home Country Coverage is available to U.S. citizens to a maximum of 15 days per three-month period of coverage. If you have an incidental trip back to the U.S. and incur medical expenses during that time, this benefit may be necessary.

This plan also provides coverage for a natural disaster. The natural disaster benefit can help to defray the cost of replacement accommodations in the event you are displaced from planned, paid accommodations due to evacuation from a forecasted disaster or following a disaster strike.

Had no need to use the policy.

It's actually impossible to write a review with questions like these when I had no issues so didn't have to deal with trip insurance coverage. That would then be a more realistic review. However, I appreciated the simple process, the low cost. However, I think it would have been better to also include coverage for specific belongings and for me to have been able to say, this is how much my belongings are worth.

I filed multiple claims with extensive documentation. They chose to barely communicate with me. Every time I called them on the phone they said they prefer to do communication via postal mail (letters). It took an extremely long time to get any information or decision from them. They generally refused to respond to emails and their phone representatives don't have much information or resources available to them. In the end they denied most of my claims without reason. They did pay out one of my claims eventually, but they did not notify me about it via email. I just noticed a wire transfer from them my bank statement and contacted them about it and they confirmed it was them. I didn't bother to continue appealing for my denied claims because they take so long to respond and I have better things to do. Due to very poor communication and customer service, I would not recommend them.
