Each year, thousands gather at Carnival Samba Parade (also called Sambodromo) in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate Brazil’s cultural diversity and history with samba dance competitions, bright floats and music. The four-day celebration kicks off in late February through early March.
And now, Brazil has something else to cheer about. The stadium where the Carnival Samba Parade is held will also be a focal point during the 2016 Olympic Games this summer. Situated in the centre of Rio, the Sambódromo (stadium) will stage the marathon start and finish, plus the Olympic and Paralympic archery events (Source: Rio2016.com).
