Nationwide Universal Cruise

The Nationwide Universal Cruise plan is only available to people who will be traveling on a cruise during their trip. It is well suited for those who will be traveling up to 30 days with family or friends.

This plan is specifically built for the unique needs you’ll have if you are going on a cruise. Because of this, there are some benefits that are not typically included in comprehensive plans. For instance, Return Home Early coverage allows you to abandon your cruise for any reason, and provides transportation costs up to $250 in order to get home. In order to be eligible for this, the plan must be purchased prior to the final payment. See quoted plan for other eligibility requirements and full coverage details. Some state residencies will not allow this coverage.

More specific coverages include (available in most states):

  • Port of Call Change - If the cruise line changes your itinerary prior to departure and you elect to embark on the voyage, this plan will provide a one-time payment of $500 for the inconvenience.
  • Shipboard Service Disruption – If the cruise line changes your itinerary during the cruise due to a shipboard fire, virus or mechanical breakdown, this plan will provide a one-time compensation payment of $100.
  • Pre-Paid Excursion Reimbursement – If the cruise line changes your itinerary after your departure and you have secured pre-paid, non-refundable excursions, this plan will provide a one-time reimbursement up to $250.
  • Missed Connection - If inclement weather causes a delay due to a covered reason of 3 or more hours of all regularly scheduled airlines and you miss your cruise departure, this plan will reimburse up to $500 for expenses to help you rejoin your ship.

The Universal Cruise plan also includes important coverage such as trip cancellation and trip interruption. If you need to cancel prior to departure or interrupt after departure for a covered reason. The plan also features benefits like travel delay, missed connection, baggage coverage, medical, and emergency medical evacuation coverage to list a few.

Since I fortunately did not need to use the plan it is hard to rate the service. It gave me peace of mind however knowing someone had "my back" if things did not go as planned.

Our long awaited magical ten day cruise on the Carnival Vista from Greece to Barcelona, then thirteen day Royal Caribbean Harmony from Barcelona to Ft. Lauderdale was thrown into a tailspin two days before our scheduled flight departure. Air France cancelled the last leg of our flight - Paris to Athens. Then, the Air Traffic controllers in Greece scheduled a four day strike, which prevented us from embarking on our ship in Athens. Air France tried to book us to the first port of call, but we would have had to leave "tomorrow", which was impossible because both of our nearby airports, Orlando and Melbourne were closed in the anticipation of Hurricane Matthew. Needless to say, our stress level was high, and thankfully, we didn't have to concern ourselves with losing several thousands of dollars as well. I am a big Clark Howard fan. He advises it's never wise to buy the trip insurance cruise lines offer, but rather a third party company. Nationwide was excellent and covered us for all of our losses. We NEVER plan a trip without buying insurance from Five years ago, we cancelled a European vacation due to a death, and once again, we were refunded all of our losses. The Nationwide refund was quick and the information was easy to submit.
