Our daughter in law became pregnant after we took out this policy and her doctor forbade her from travelling. Nationwide denied the claim. We were denied again when appealing that finding. After asking for their contact for our lawyer, we received payment very quickly. Shame!

John Hancock Gold
We have always used John Hancock travel insurance.

We have bought the gold package with the trip cost being $1.00 as we did not need to cover the travel cost. Hence the policy was purchased only for medical emergencies. And we have always confirmed this by phone with your office.

I contacted your office a few days ago to confirm as usual and I was informed that John Hancock do not cover medical for travel insurance and that I would need to provide the whole travel cost in order to get medical coverage.

This is a surprise and concern as I have always taken the policy for medical and not the travel cost. In which case why would the system let me even purchase a policy? Why do we receive a policy indicating the coverage? And what does the premium paid get applied to?

There seems to be a misrepresentation by your staff. I have purchased policies for myself and others for the last 10 years and was always informed by your office to put the trip cost at $1.00.

We recently traveled in September with the John Hancock policy. Had there been a medical emergency would your office have considered/covered the claim?

We buy insurance for peace of mind. I shudder to think what could have happened if we had a claim.

I need to know before purchasing future policies with John Hancock. I have emailed their office but no response has been received
I hesitate to give them a good rating after this.

Purchase was difficult and stressful. When my credit card didn't go through, company called me on old phone number for several days, then threatened to cancel coverage. Did not email me until just a day before payment was due. Also, upon comparison with similar passengers, I learned that I overpaid by several thousand dollars. This is a terrible insurance company

    Based on our system notes, this insured’s frustration stems from a Trip Cost increase she requested 8 months after her original purchase. We do not store credit card numbers, so we needed her card details to execute the request. She provided that information to IMT staff (not Aegis) but without the CVV.



    We attempted to call her at the phone number she entered when purchasing the policy. Apparently, that number was no longer her preferred one & she had never provided us an alternate number.



    We have no record of anyone telling her the policy would be cancelled. That statement isn’t logical considering she had a valid policy & was simply increasing her trip costs.



    The Trip Cost increase was executed the same day we received the CVV number for her credit card which was 5 months in advance of her departure date. This policy is competitively priced for the coverage provided.

Tried to get through to someone when delta was late getting us to our connecting flight and it left without us. No one answered, number one representative and number two were busy. Poor service, would not waste money on this company.

When I purchased this I was not aware that it didn't cover all reasons for cancellations...somewhere in the fine print I guess....so when I called about the coverage I was told "too bad, you're not covered...nothing we will do for your". So in the end not only did I end up having to cancel the trip for 4 people, absorb all the nonrefundable $$ but I wasted the insurance fee.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you had to cancel your trip. We understand that it is never pleasant to receive a denial for reimbursement under the Trip Cancellation coverage. However, your reason to cancel your trip must be specifically stated as a covered reason in the policy.

    Comprehensive plans are designed to cover as many risks as possible,
    but it appears that your trip was cancelled due to an event that would require a plan with Cancel for Any Reason.

    There are typically 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider as follows: Purchase the policy within 10 - 21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 hours prior to the departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, most of the policies will reimburse you 75% of your trip costs, unless otherwise noted.

    The Cancel For Any Reason will show under its own box. Please make sure to click on the underlined phrase to view the requirements to qualify for this option. If you decide to buy this Rider, make sure to click on the box near the Cancel For Any Reason Rider and hit the 'buy' button at the top or bottom of the quote. Please note that these policies are State-specific.

When I was in Canada I tried a lot to call the number you sent me through email, but unfortunately they hang up on me a lot. I really need to see a doctor but I was worried about the coverage and I had some questions.

    We have advised Travelex that you had issues when trying to contact them while you were in Canada. Your policy did provide 24 hour emergency assistance through:

    OnCall, which we know to be a very reliable company, should have been available to you 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week during your trip.

As time goes on since my trip, the more angry I get at your denial of my claim. Your reasons don't make sense and lead me to believe that you would search for any ridiculous reason to prevent the payment of a claim. I will never use your company again and won't recommend it to others.

I called twice while on my trip to get some information about what was covered because we ran into some problems. Both times they could not answer my questions and told me they'd have someone from John Hancock call me back. I never received a return phone call. A total waste of money!

    We are sorry to learn your trip was canceled. Most of our providers have a strict review period in which a policy may be canceled and fully refunded. The CSA Custom policy has a 10 day review period from purchase where they would issue this refund.

    Once you are outside your review period, and a refund is not available, we are able to request that your policy is transferred to a new trip. If you receive a full refund of your trip, and you have not filed any claims against your policy, we are more than happy in assisting you with this request.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
Purchased the plan and sure enough, I had to take my son to the doctor three days after being overseas. I contacted the phone number and had a great service, providing help with the symptoms and making sure that my son was ok...they kept calling for two days to make sure everything was fine.....the problem is when trying to get the claim processed: It's been 6 weeks since I submitted everything online and there hasn't been any contact from the company. I've sent messages to my AIG Adjuster (J. Crivello) using the online system and haven't get any answer. Based solely on this lack of service I don't recommend that you buy this insurance. If they take this long to process a claim for $100 dollars, you really don't want to try them with something more serious and expensive. What a disappointment, don't buy this insurance

    Thank you very much for submitting this review. We did contact AIG Travel Guard who informed us that a representative did reach out to you to advise that a check was in the mail.

    We apologize for the slowness of the communication from the AIG Travel Guard Claims Department. This is definitely not their usual standard of service. Despite this frustration, we were very glad to hear that you received full reimbursement for your medical claim.
