It turns out (in the small print somewhere) that to process a small claim you must first submit your claim to Medicare. I believe Medicare does not cover overseas, but one must go through the process anyway. I believe most all foreign travelers are older and under Medicare, so this effectively drags out the claims process to discourage pursuing a claim and save your company money.
After buying trip insurance a number of times previously, I will never do this again!
I will self insure.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you are dissatisfied with this plan. You are correct in that the AXA Assistance USA Silver plan is a secondary policy. The majority of travel insurance policies are secondary, but InsureMyTrip does offer a selection of primary policies. In the future, please consider calling us prior to purchase so that we can guide you towards policies that best suit your needs.

    Medicare does not cover outside of the United States, but some Medicare Supplement plans do provide some coverage while traveling abroad. If a travel insurance plan is secondary, the insured person(s) would be required to file a claim with the Medicare Supplement first. If coverage is denied or only partially provided, the travel insurance would cover the remainder, up to the policy limit.

      "Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any difficulties you may have experienced in filing a claim. We appreciate customer comments and continually use customer feedback to improve our products. At the time of your claim, the silver plan provided coverage secondary to Medicare. The gold and platinum plans serve as primary coverage and it is not necessary to file with Medicare first. In the future, you may call us so we may assist you in finding the best policy and benefits to fit your travel needs."

Terrible. Cruise was canceled and a month after filing the claim, just getting a run around. I've repeatedly sent them 19 pages of documentation and they keep saying I'm missing something. I tell them its right there and give them the page number and then they just ask for something else thats in the same package of documents. You call and they won't give you people's full names and refuse to give an extension number so you can contact them. I'm getting no where and honestly considering hiring an attorney to deal with this.

I did not get to go on this trip due to medical reasons. I filed the claim as soon as I knew I could not go. I was asked for the same information repeatedly. It was almost as if the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. It was impossible to call and check the progress on claim. Finally, several months later, I received some of the money due. All in all, I lost 300.00 plus 500.00 which was the cost of the policy. Never again will I use itravel.com

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector Plus
I have come to believe Travel Insurance is useless except for in very RARE circumstances. Last year I did not purchase insurance for a trip that was cancelled as the taxi was in our driveway. Come to learn the insurance would NOT have covered it anyway. This year I called your company to see what assistance I could get when it appeared we would have a 9 hour delay in our flight, causing a connection to be missed. The best you could suggest is that we purchase another 1 way ticket and submit a claim when we got home.....and PERHAPS we would be reimbursed for it. Well....we all know how THAT would have turned out!!!!

I am currently holding insurance on 2-3 more trips. When they are completed we will not be purchasing any more trip insurance as it is for the most part useless. I could have had another Tanzanian safari for 2 with what I have paid you all over the years. Turns out if we had we needed to file a claim, it would have been money down the drain.

    All travel insurance is written on a 'named peril" basis which means that the reason for the claim must be specifically listed in your policy as a covered reason. The number one covered reason for Trip Cancellation in all Comprehensive plans is the unexpected sickness, injury or death of you, your traveling companion or your family member. Of course, there are other covered reasons that vary by policy. As you found out, canceling your trip because there is a taxi in your driveway would not be a covered reason under any of our plans.

    We can also understand why you would be bothered because a claim representative would not confirm payment for a claim. No one will predetermine a claim until the company has received the paperwork. Nevertheless, there may very well be coverage under your policy for your Missed Connection:

    "If You miss Your cruise or tour departure because Your arrival at Your Trip destination is delayed for 3 or more hours, due to:
    a) any delay of a Common Carrier (the delay must be certified by the Common Carrier);
    b) documented weather condition preventing You from getting to the point of departure;
    c) quarantine, hijacking, Strike, Natural Disaster, terrorism or riot.
    We will reimburse You, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Confirmation of Benefits, for:
    a) Your Additional Transportation Cost to join Your Trip; and
    b) Your Prepaid expenses for the unused land or water Travel Arrangements; and
    c) reasonable accommodation, telephone and meal expenses up to 0 per day necessarily incurred by You for which You have proof of purchase and which were not paid for or provided by any other source."

I would never use IMG Insure my trip again! They are great on the front end and at taking your premium money but horrible on the back end if you file a claim. You can't talk to anyone who actually makes decisions. It took 5 months to receive a final decision and communication was horrible during the entire process. I received multiple emails asking for more information (much of which was completely unrelated to the claim issue) only to be corrected that they actually did have everything. Their "agents" don't provide any help for the customer and have no actual knowledge of the issue or process status.
I filed a claim for reimbursement of a non-refundable airline ticket that I had to cancel because our international connecting flight home from Rome changed from an afternoon departure to a morning departure. That change required me to purchase a new ticket on a different airline, cut our trip a day short in Greece because we had to leave a day earlier in order to make the morning connecting flight home from Rome the following day. The claim was denied for unknown reasons other than references to paragraphs in the contract. Plus, to add to frustration you can't actually talk with anyone to find out exactly why or discuss.
I would recommend Zurich Ins. Their claim process was, simple quick, responsive and paid up for an airline cancellation we encountered during a trip early in 2023.

I did not need to file a claim under this plan, however, before I left on my scheduled trip, I did reach out, call the plan phone numbers that were provided to file a claim, so that I would know the process if needed. I was transferred multiple times, and when I did reach an agent to discuss claim filing he was extremely vague on what would and would not be covered under various scenarios, as well as how a claim is filed. I left on my trip with a clear understanding that the company would put significant effort into avoiding fulfilling a claim.

There is no service to assist if flights are missed or cancelled as some plans feature. It is up to you to arrange alternative flights and then file a claim for flight delay, trip interruption.

I wish I had purchased from another company with service to assist in arranging alternative flights, transfers if needed, and staff that clearly explain prior to travel what would and would not be covered, and the process for filing a claim.

I would appreciate a refund of the hefty premium I paid considering the customer service I received prior to travel.

I found the company very difficult to deal with when i filed a claim for trip cancellation because of a medical condition of a family member. After i provided all the requested info and told that my claim would be processed and paid it was denied. On the third appeal after threatening to notify the state insurance dept they settled and I received a check. They were quick to cash the premium check and almost impossible to get a claim settled. I wouldn't buy from them again and I recommend that they be taken off this site.

Very poor experience with this company. Countless phone calls checking on my claim over a 3-4 month time period. Poor customer service and a lot of excuses. Would never use this company again.

Unfortunately we had to cancel the trip, but prior to final payment. My brother who was traveling with us had a brain tumor and needed surgery. We submitted 22 pages of required validation. Response was slow and they disallowed a charge. We contacted insure my trip who acted on our behalf and we were paid the amount due. My brother’s paper work was lost even though he sent it by mail with tracking so it was received at their office. Ultimately again with insure my trip rep, they decided to use my paper work and the claim was resolved. This company is not good.

I filed a trip interruption claim because of a terriost attack in Istanbul. Celebrity decided not to stop in Istanbul and I had to make other flight arrangements which cost an additional $581.00. There was a clause that said the terriost attack had to happen a month before my departure and that Roam Right was not responsible to reimburse me. Celebrity did compensate $300. And I filed with Roam Right for $281. I guess insurance companys always have clauses that prevent customers from getting money back.

This is because the travel insurance is designed to protect travelers against unforeseen incidents. If an incident occurs more than 30 days prior to traveling, it is no longer considered unforeseen.
