AIG Travel Travel Guard Basic
I thought I bought trip insurance to cover any unexpected occurrences but I found out the hard way that it didn't cover squat. I've told my friends "what ever you do, don't buy AIG insurance.

We regret to hear that you were disappointed when you filed a claim with AIG Travel Guard. However, there are no travel insurance plans that would "cover any unexpected occurrences". Both Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption would reimburse you only for covered expenses that are specifically listed in the policy. Although the number one covered reason in most Comprehensive plans is the unexpected sickness, injury or death of you, a traveling companion or family member, there are other covered reasons that may vary from plan to plan. The list of covered reasons may be reviewed in all plans prior to purchase by clicking on the dollar amount of coverage under Trip Cancelation in your quote.

In the future, you may wish to call us at (800) 487-4722 for assistance in quoting and purchasing a policy.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
We had to cancel the trip due to what was happening in Barcelona. The airport was cloed and rioting was all over the city. People could not even get to the airport. This went on all week. We were supposed to fly on Wednesday and cancelled the trip. American airlines finally refunded my money. On Monday 53 people were injured at the the airport and the worst day of rioting in the city was Friday.

We did not go. Onthe 14th, the airport was closed and 53 people were injured there.I cancelled the flight on the morning of the 16th due to problems all over the city.People could not even get to the airport, ships docked in other cities and rioting broke out all over. This to me was terrorist attacks created by the Catalon seperatists against the Spanish government. American Airlines finally refunded my money. The insurance was useless.

Thank you for your feedback. We regret that your Nationwide Essential plan did not meet your expectations.

Trip cancellation is a standard benefit offered with most travel insurance comprehensive plans. This travel insurance benefit provides reimbursement of your pre-paid, non-refundable expenses should you need to cancel your trip unexpectedly for a covered reason.

In all comprehensive travel insurance policies there will be an included list of covered reasons for cancellation. These are situations the insurance company considers legitimate as factors in making the decision to cancel your trip. It’s essential that you are familiar with this list of covered reasons in any insurance policy you’re considering purchasing since these are guidelines by which any claim you may need to file will be judged. The plan certificate is available for you to read before making a purchase.

After reading through the plan certificate, you may not be comfortable with the list of covered reasons provided to you. You may need more flexibility in making the decision to cancel your trip, you may want to consider purchasing a Cancel for Any Reason benefit.

InsureMyTrip is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and our customer care representatives are licensed insurance agents who are able to recommend the most cost effective plans which will cover the travelers primary concerns. If you would like to receive assistance in obtaining a quote or purchasing a policy, please call us at 800-487-4722 as we would be happy to assist you.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
The response time from Nationwide is horrible. It is a minimum of 3 weeks to get a response via email. When I finally got my claim approved after SEVERAL months, the amount received was less than what we claimed with no explanation given. Avoid Nationwide at all costs. It will save you a lot of headaches, stress, and time.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Choice Cruise
To File claim it is the most cumbersome process possible. I paid for my cruise more than 16 months ago and I have to find a bank statement for this purchase to file a claim for a missed flight I incurred to get re-imbursed to hotel expense I paid....why not just show original itinerary and modified one with boarding passes??? Never again will I use this company!! Good riddens

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
Nationwide Mutual Insurance hides behind bureaucracy to delay processing claims.

I had a family doctor visit (non-emergency, neither requiring hospitalization) during my international trip. I submitted a claim for only $60, after few weeks I got an email from Nationwide Travel Claims asking me to submit a letter/documentation from my primary insurance stating if my policy does cover medical expenses incurred outside of the United States. I contact my primary insurer who explains in a letter that they ONLY cover excess of $350, and ONLY for emergencies or hospitalization.

After few weeks, I receive another email from Nationwide Travel Claims asking me to provide a copy of my primary health insurer’s Explanation of Benefits indicating the amount paid or denied for the submitted charges, which THEY KNOW that I cannot provide because my primary health insurer won't cover those charges as documented in the letter that I already sent them the first time they contacted me.

In summary, **Nationwide hides behind bureaucracy to delay processing the claims**

John Hancock Bronze
We always purchase travel insurance and we travel international every year, sometimes even 3 times in a year and this recent trip was the First Time I actually wanted to use the benefit. I called the John Hancock office to inquire on canceling my trip due to my mother who is 90-years old had an accident and just had Hip Replacement surgery. My husband and I wanted to cancel the Spain trip and just spend time with my mother to help her in her recovery and therapy - the Insurance Agency said they cannot give a definitive answer if my Claim will be approve or rejected UNTIL I file a Claim and wait 30-days for an answer. I now realize Travel Insurance is a waste of money because people buy Insurance to remove the RISK in your Travels but when you need to use it, you will be asked to take the "RISK" anyway if you will be approved or rejected - so what is the point of having Insurance?

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that you are dissatisfied with the service you received. We strive to provide a superior level of customer service, including interpretation of travel insurance benefits and exclusions. While we cannot predetermine the outcome of a claim, we aim to provide a clear understanding of what travel insurance is designed to cover.

John Hancock Bronze has the following number one covered reason to cancel or interrupt your trip:
"(a) Your Accidental Injury, Covered Sickness or death or the Accidental Injury, Covered Sickness or death of Your
Traveling Companion, Your Family Member, Your children’s caregiver or Your Business Partner; that results in
medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of loss preventing Your participation or continued
participation in the Covered Trip. A Physician must advise cancellation of the Covered Trip on or before the Scheduled
    Departure Date."

The claims administrator is required to adjudicate claims based on the terms and conditions of the policy. Unfortunately, in no event can a claim be predetermined, as you would be required to provide Proof of Loss to determine appropriate coverage. This would be the case for any insurance provider that we represent.
We would be happy to speak with you further about your experience and/or provide any clarification of policy terms and conditions. Please let us know if you have any questions or need further assistance. We can be reached at 800-487-4722.

No one will probably ever read this review because the company obviously "curates" the reviews. If they are like may sites that self-publish reviews it is possible that fake reviews have been posted. Just ask yourself the question: Why would anyone write a review for one-time insurance they never used? Makes no sense. Some sites give you the option of showing the reviews with claims and they are rarely five stars.

Also, you may buy the policy from John Hancock which has a great reputation but the claims are actually processed by some company you've never heard in the midwest, like Seven Corners (check them on Yelp). So it is actually impossible to read see reviews for the company that actually processes the claims. Once you have made a claim and obtain the name of the claims processor if you go to Yelp and find an overall 1 Star rating and hundreds of horror stories about the claims process. In my experience claim will take 2 to 3 months if you're lucky and possibly never if they invoke the numerous loopholes in these policies.

Then you have another layer of websites like this one that publish "ratings" for companies they represent and articles from Forbes and other sources they pay for the media"reviews". Notice they are all five stars. Finally, you have google who is only going to display positive reviews and information provided by their paying customers, the insurance agent, insurance companies and the hidden companies that you actually deal with if you have a claim. Also note that although you can post a review for your local insurance agent on google there is no option of posting an unedited review for this site, John Hancock or other insurance companies on google, interesting...

Hopefully, the people that review these reviews will find this one worthy. However, I suspect they will be laughing with their workmates as they hit the delete button!

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, civil unrest does not meet the definition of Terrorism in your policy.

    “Terrorist Incident”
means an act of violence, that is deemed terrorism by the United States Government other than civil disorder or riot (that is not an act of war, declared or undeclared) that results in loss of life or major damage to property, by any person acting alone or in association with other persons on behalf of or in connection with any organization which is generally recognized as having the intent to overthrow or influence the control of any other government."

Generali Global Assistance Preferred
My dealings with GGA were unhelpful, and a waste of my time and energy, to put it kindly. "Passing the buck", getting the run-around, however, you care to describe it, though kindly and polite, the 'Emergency Hotline" people were singularly unhelpful. (A bit like getting a computer technician 'from India'). Their phone help line seemed incapable, unprepared to answer the most basic questions, about providers, out-of-network providers, reimbursement, claim filing, etc.
I sustained a painful knee injury and needed treatment when I landed in Spain (from SF). For one month the pain continued, and it continued while I was in France for another month. I had purchased a 'comprehensive' policy with supposedly 'no out of pocked medical expenses.' —if I called emergency help line first, which I did several times. Ha! They had no one in Barcelona or Cadiz 'in network'. I was told to locate my own physician in both places I did, with some effort; then paid out of pocket, in cash for four treatments.
In Paris, I called the 'helpline' again and this time received in-network referrals. I made appt with in-network physician who promptly ordered an MRI for my knee. Again I called the 'helpline' to be sure they could make arrangements with osteopath and radiologist( I gave Drs. address, telephone) so I would not need to pay out of pocket. They assured me that, yes, they would, and then that they had, done so. No problem. When I arrived, however, I was told I had to pay for both doctor and MRI. After this, I received email notice from GGA that my claim had been filed and even given a claim number and told a representative would contact me soon (no one ever did).
Now I am home, I call GGA and am told 1)I have to file an official claim to even have any questions answered! The claim number they sent me was "not a 'real claim." 2) In addition to filing out various forms, I need to get a written 'disposition' from Medicare supplemental provider that they refuse to pay foreign costs (even though secondary covers ONLY what Medicare covers, no foreign medical coverage). 3) In the claim filing forms they sent me, I see: "invoices will not be accepted as proof of payment. You must provide credit card or cancelled checks." These foreign providers all requested CASH payments, and would not accept checks or credit cards. This caveat is not mentioned in the policy details.
In short, I am not going to bother to file a claim I am sure will be rejected. have wasted hours and hours of time and frustration attempting to get help from GGA with this injury. I would have been better off, handling this without trying to use them as an intermediary. I was fortunate, this is a relatively minor injury, but surely not worth the frustration, the jumping through the hoops and barriers set up by this company. Just get catastrophe insurance, I can only hope they might have come through if it was a life or death situation.
