Your Generali Global Assistance Standard plan does include Secondary Coverage which means that this coverage will be paid after any other Primary collectible insurance has paid the claim and the Primary policy limits have been exhausted. In the event of a medical claim, you may have to pay the medical provider out of pocket and receive reimbursement at a later date.

I submitted the required documents and months later they asked for more information including wanting a statement from the physician in Peru who speaks no English . I called customer service and was treated with a very rude response. I don’t know why they are making this so difficult. My claim was for less than $400 and I received an email today stating that the claim is closed. Why? This seems like fraud.

I have used other companies on Insure My Trip and was extremely satisfied. There’s no way I can recommend this company. Regrettably I have them insuring my upcoming trip on a cruise. I will see if I can change to another company. Absolutely horrible experience!

This insurance was to cover a trip to Turkey for my grandaughter's 16th birthday present. Due to the recent terrorist activity in Turkey I changed the trip to Peru. I incurred cancellation fees as well as other upcharges due to the last minute changes. I inquired as to at least getting the airline cancellation fees reimbursed and was told that due to the fact that I was travelling within the same time frame I was not entitled to any reimbursement.

Generali Global Assistance Standard
I was supposed to go to Istanbul and Greece the day the attack happened on the Ataturk Airport. After landing in Germany and being directed back home, I thought I would get my money back from CSA. However they refused to reimburse me for the airfare (because I used the ticket). I don't understand the virtue of buying a policy that doesn't cover your airfare unless you don't use it. Isn't the point of buying trip insurance to cover you for unforeseen circumstances? Now I get to start saving for my trip all over again.

Although the terrorist act was a covered event, we cannot reimburse for the flight once a traveler has departed. Trip Interruption does not cover used airfare; however, it does cover the unused arrangements you included on your claim. We aim to ensure our customers understand the coverage details of our plans and strongly recommend they review a sample Description of Coverage/Insurance Policy that is provided at purchase. We also offer a free look back period with all of our plans to allow customers to cancel their policies within a designated period as long as they haven't already left on their trip or filed a claim. Coverage appears much better than it really is due to multiple limitations. We were out-of-pocket more than $1600 and only got reimbursed $832.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
I chose this plan feeling it would cover any issues that would cover us not going on the trip (illness, company interrupted vaca meeting elsewhere, and mostly if the country we were traveling to was having riots and unrest that would endanger our 2 yr old). We called before leaving regarding the protests and issues between the Turks and Erdogan's government and Travel Guard informed us it isn't covered unless the US deems it a terrorist issue. Go figure. Luckily, the protests calmed, we went, and the day we were leaving they started again.

TripAssure Advantage Asset Plus
The plan only covered medical and dental attention while in the foreign country. I cracked my teeth after a fall on the sidewalk and did not want to see a dentist in Istanbul. The plan does not cover my dental attention coming back to the States. Very disappointing.

We've been getting this insurance for several years. The huge price hike when my husband turned 70 this year was excessive. It should be more gradual.

Fortunately, I did not file a claim w/ your company. Though my biggest concern was my health care coverage. I am a diabetic and I believe I may not have been covered because I did not purchase my plan within a few days of booking my trip,(pre-existing conditions clause). Although I now know I must do this in the future. Could you please explain the reasoning behind this ?

    This particular plan has a 60 day pre-existing (pre-x) conditons period. With any pre-x condition, if in that 60 day period immediately prior to purchasing your insurance policy, there are changes or adjustments in medications you may take, any non-routine medical care, or hospitalizations; then it would be considered a pre-x condition. It is difficult to say in this specific case how it would be handled. Your medical records is that 60 day period would determine whether or not you would have been covered during your trip. For future reference, as you may know now, purchase this plan again within 14 days of making your first payment on the trip.

I did not get any satisfactory results to my claim. Agents request over and over again documents and proof of documentation without any accomplishments. If we buy an insurance is to have a piece of mind to feel protected not to get more agony when the problem arises.
