Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
We booked a trip to London on at the end of January for travel in mid-June. We purchased this policy on January 31, when covid-19 had yet to be named or determined to be a pandemic . Due to the UK's continued shutdown through the spring and the UK's 14 day mandatory quarantine policy, Delta cancelled our flight in late May. We filed a claim with Delta, who fully refunded our air travel. We filed a claim with Nationwide to recover our non-fundable deposit on the London flat that we made in January. The claim was denied since covid-19 was not a named peril in the policy (well it was January 2020 with less than a handful of cases in the US) and the policy supposedly did not cover cancellation by the airline. If we couldn't fly to London, how were we going to get there!? We had a Travelex travel insurance policy 10 years ago that completely reimbursed us for a cruise that we were unable to get to because Delta cancelled our flight due to a massive east coast Christmas snow storm. I don't believe a snow storm was a peril listed in the policy. I will never buy another Nationwide travel insurance policy and would not recommend to others. They are definitely NOT on you side.

Seven Corners Roundtrip
We had to make a claim when our trip was very disrupted by the Icelandic Volcano in April 2009. It took many months to get the perfectly justified claim paid and only with the intervention of "Insuremytrip" on our behalf. We had to go through 2 appeal processes. They paid up eventually, but did everything they could to avoid it. The customer service staff were unpleasant and unhelpful. The claims process incredibly cumbersome....needing everything from copies of the stamps in our passports to actual air tickets not etickets. We had to cancel a rail connection between 2 cities in Spain and rebook for a different date. Seven Corners insisted that they would not cover this because the policy only covers flights that are rebooked to catch up with your itinerary not trains.....even though the train between the 2 cities was much more convenient, cheaper AND all flights in Spain were cancelled during the volcano dust event! They obstructed at every turn and made the process unbelievably hard. Only someone as stubborn as myself and with the leisure to sends dozens of emails and mountains of paperwork would have persevered and made them do the right thing. NEVER AGAIN.

    We are sorry that you found the claims process frustrating. We do have required documentation in order to pay a claim on behalf of our Underwriters.

John Hancock Bronze
I called to find out about submitting a claim as we had to abort the trip and return one week earlier than planned when my husband became unable to continue due to a chronic medical condition. We had to get a flight back to the US immediately so he could see his Doctor. I was told that because he didn't see a Dr. in Edinburgh, the coverage could not help nor give us any monies back. We came back immediately because he needed to see his own Dr. familiar with his condition.
This is inadequate coverage not affording the insured the opportunity to submit a claim and being told basically 'don't bother because the plan won't cover your husband' since he didn't see a Dr. before leaving Scotland.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We hope that fellow customers will find your review and our response to be educational and informative.

    We are sorry to learn that you had to interrupt your trip due to an illness that your husband suffered. The John Hancock Bronze plan provides coverage up to 10,000 USD per person for unforeseen, accidental injuries or emergency illnesses which first occur during the trip, and are treated by a physician during the trip. If medical treatment is not obtained during the trip, and the traveler waits until returning home to the United States, the travel insurance expires and does not cover the medical bills.

    You may call us any time at 800-487-4722 to discuss travel insurance products offered by InsureMyTrip. We are open 7 days a week, and all of our representatives are licensed insurance agents.

Might be worth it for catastrophic coverage but not much else.

On extended travel, I called for help refilling my prescription medications while in the UK. Had to give a LOT of info over the phone to someone seemed very ill-informed about the policy -- I had to explain to her. Said she'd get back to me. Several days later (!), someone emailed and just offered a list of medical practices I could visit in area, ALL of which were inappropriate/useless (e.g., cardiology only practice when I needed a general practice referral to get a UK prescription). I found better information just Googling on my own. I had to solve the problem myself rather than getting any help. And why did it take several days for someone to reply with useless information?

Even worse: My spouse had an injury during our trip for which he sought treatment in the UK. We started a claim for it but then saw that the documentation required to fill out was so extensive, that it would take several hours of work for us to complete all the required forms, so we gave up as not being worth our time. His medical costs were less than $500. There should be different documentation requirements for small claims like ours vs. more expensive ones!

In short, we tried to use this policy but it turned out to be worthless to us.

    Thank you for your feedback. Berkshire Travel Protection is a comprehensive plan and does offer to wide range of benefits. However, we did forward your request to Berkshire Hathaway who did contact their 3rd party provider and agree that their provider failed to provide you with the level of service that you had a right to expect. Berkshire Hathaway offers their apology and appreciates your bringing this issue to their attention.

    hours due to a defined Hazard.
    Covered Expenses:

    In the future, you may wish to review your policy prior to purchasing. A summary of coverage information is included in your Nationwide quotes and Confirmations of Coverage.

Trip cancellation, interruption and delay are very specific per each policy. Be sure to read the fine print as to when they take in effect so as not to be disappointed later when a claim is not paid. Sadly, Nationwide would not cover our trip delay expenses because the delay was not 6 hours or more.

    Travelers will find that every Comprehensive plan makes basic trip cancellation coverage available that will extend coverage for the cancellation of a trip for specific unforeseen, covered reasons. Commonly, travel insurance plans, such as the Nationwide Essential plan, will cover reasons such as:

    The unexpected death, illness, or injury of you and/or a traveling companion that deems you unfit to travel, by order of a licensed physician;
    The hospitalization or death of a non-traveling family member;
    Weather or common carrier related issues that causes your common carrier to cease operations for 24 hours;
    Unforeseen natural disasters at home or the destination; and
    A legal obligation, such as being called for jury duty or to appear as a witness in court. However, we recommend that you review the covered reasons in your certificate since they do vary from plan to plan.

    Travel Delay under the Nationwide Essential plan does reimburse the traveler for your incurred expenses but only after a six hour delay for a
    Hazard which means:
    "a) Any delay of a Common Carrier (including Inclement Weather).
    b) Any delay by a traffic accident en route to a departure, in which You or a Traveling Companion is not directly involved.
    c) Any delay due to lost or stolen passports, travel documents or money, quarantine, hijacking, unannounced Strike,
    natural disaster, civil commotion or riot.
    d) A closed roadway causing cessation of travel to the destination of the Covered Trip (substantiated by the department of transportation, state police, etc.)"

    InsureMyTrip encourages all customers to the certificate which is attached to each quote prior to purchasing.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Basic
I was encouraged to file a claim per my telephone discussing with an AIG rep. The claim was denied since my policy did not cover such a problem. Why did the first rep not tell me that?? I had to go through all the procedure in filing when it could have been avoided from the beginning.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector
My son had a tooth abscess which required root cancel treatment. The 'dental' coverage did not cover this. The customer service representatives were extremely slow in handing my claim. I would not recommend.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that your son had to seek emergency dental treatment during your trip. We hope that fellow customers find your review and our reply educational.

    The C+F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector plan has the following coverage for dental, which can be found in the full certificate: "Benefits will include up to USD750 for emergency dental treatment due to Injury to natural teeth." This is a standard in most, if not all travel insurance plans. In the future, please consider calling us prior to purchase to discuss the plan exclusions. We strongly recommend customers read the terms and conditions of the policy within the review period to determine if the policy fits your needs. If the policy does not fit your needs, it can be cancelled within the review period for a refund of premium. Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions or concerns.

Arch RoamRight Elite
On the way back, I encountered road closures due to a snow storm. I called Roam Right to confirm if I would be covered for a hotel stay. I explained that I just landed, was walking off the plane and on my way to customs. The person wanted me to go to a website. I explained again my inability to do so. His response, "All I can do is give you the information. It's up to you to do with it what you want." This is extremely poor customer service in a situation where I needed an immediate response. I asked for a manager and he put me on hold and a manager never came after being on hold for 15 minutes. I finally hung up and had to call Insure My Trip to get an answer to my question. I will never use this insurance company again as I shudder to think of how they will handle my issue if I was in a real emergency situation in a foreign country.
