The purchase process for our trip insurance was very simple. It's very difficult to evaluate the plan unless you had a claim. We didn't, so we have nothing to rate except the purchase process and cost. Both of which were simple and reasonable. We would make the same purchase again.

This was the most comprehensive and cost effective program when I purchased it. Since then I have found less expensive programs that focus on evacuation of client and return to US for care. This makes more sense to me.

I like the AXA plan because it covers pre-existing conditions (if bought during a short window after the first trip payment) and (according to my reading of the policy) doesn't require that the customer insure 100% of trip expenses in order to make a claim based on a pre-existing condition. All other companies seem to require that 100% of expenses be insured.
The real test of an insurance policy is whether the company actually pays legitimate claims. Fortunately I didn't have a need to file a claim so I can't evaluate this critical issue.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. At the time you purchased the policy, the AXA Assistance USA Silver plan offered the pre-existing conditions waiver without requiring the traveler to insure the full trip cost. However, AXA Assistance USA has recently made changes to their policies. The Silver plan no longer offers the pre-existing condition waiver. The AXA Assistance USA Gold and Platinum plans offer the pre-existing condition waiver, but the customer is now required to insure the full trip cost. Nationwide Mutual Insurance

I ended up putting Nationwide to the test by having to file a cancellation claim late in the game as a result of unanticipated knee surgery. Nationwide lived up to their end of the contract in an exemplary way. Filing was simple. All that was required was filling out a short form with one paragraph for the doctor. The claim was processed quickly and paid promptly. I don't see how it could have been handled any better. I really hated to have to cancel this cruise but it was great to have this cruise specific Nationwide policy covering my risk.

Fortunately, we did not have any reason to file a claim, but we felt secure knowing that we had good coverage if we did. The online buying process was simple to use and the language of the policy was easy to understands. The terms and price were reasonable.
