My unhappiness is due to the fact that I was only reimbursed for 80% of the total cost of my wife's medical care (I am sure this is stated in the fine print somewhere, but I didn't see it) and it took over a month and a half to receive a response from HCC.
I am not poor and could easily have covered the entire cost of my wife's medical care out-of-pocket. What really annoys me is that I purchased this insurance from you to protect myself against a catastrophic (but extremely unlikely) medical expense, but I now know that due to the 80% rule, I would have been out-of-pocket for $5000, $10,000 or even $20,000, which I definitely could not have afforded.
On a happier note, I called HCC customer service before taking my wife to the doctor, and the person I spoke to was courteous, efficient and knowledgeable.

    It does state in the policy how covered claims are paid, please see below. We are happy all went well.

    For the Certificate Period, Underwriters will pay 80% of the next $5,000 of Eligible Expenses after the Deductible, then 100% to the Overall Maximum Limit. Coinsurance will be waived if expenses are incurred within the PPO and expenses are submitted to Underwriters for review and payment directly to the provider.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Choice Cruise
Check other policies. My cell phone went missing day 1 of our cruise and was never turned in. I was told to do a formal report to file with my travel insurance. I called to file a claim under the baggage portion of the policy and was told that cell phones were specifically excluded. I would think it would be considered a "personal item" and still can't find anything in writing on the policy details I was sent regarding exclusions. I obviously made a wrong choice on this policy. Disappointed. My cell phone locator finally went off a day after I returned home showing it was turned on in a port stop. I now believe a crew member had stolen my phone.

I wish Insuremytrip would have a program/incentive for returning customers where discounts are applied for future trips. I understand the importance of insurance should something happen but the cost of a 10K trip is just out of line with exposure.

    We understand that it would be very appealing to have an incentive program set up. We wish we could! Unfortunately, insurance laws make discounting insurance illegal, so there is no way for us to put a program like this into action. I was unaware of the limitations of this policy. My step son travelling with me got a throat infection while we were away. Taking him to the Hospital was not an option. When I called the insurance company I was told this policy was for serious life treating issues. I could take him to the ER and then a decision would be made as to coverage. In the meantime I would have to pay out of pocket and MAYBE I would be reimbursed. Instead I consulted the pharmacist. I was disappointed at the lack of help I received from the agent. My mistake was I should have informed myself of how to use this plan before I left for my trip.

    Thank you for your review. Assuming your stepson also had travel insurance with the RoamRight Essential plan, he would have up to 15,000 USD in emergency accident and sickness coverage. Our 24-hour assistance provider, On Call International, would have been able to assist you in finding non-emergent care for the infection. In this situation, you likely would have had to pay out of pocket and submit for reimbursement. However, our claims process is straightforward and easy to do online. You are able to start your claim process the same day treatment was sought. If you would like to speak with us directly about your situation, please call our claims department at 855-762-6252.
