Was costly. Didn't have any problems so I don't know if it would have paid off. It's a gamble but I had the security if I needed it. Don't know if there are other plans with similar coverage for a better price.

GeoBlue Voyager Choice
I thought I was covered for necessary expenses incurred for luggage that was delayed for 4 and and a half days of a five day trip to France. When I called about filing a claim, I was informed that the policy only covered lost luggage, which was not clearly stated in the policy.

I have used GeoBlue several times in the past, but this was the first occasion where I had a need to file a claim.

The policy description contains the following language which is provided on the plan overview webpage and inside the Member Services section of the site.

    'If Baggage or Personal Effects are lost, damaged or stolen, the Company will pay the loss, up to the maximum amount indicated on the Benefit Overview Matrix, provided You have taken all reasonable measures to protect, save and/or recover Your property at all times.'

For me, selecting travel insurance was like choosing the lesser of many evils from so many different offerings. It required compromises on levels of coverage to keep the cost down. I would have liked more coverage than Travelex Select included but did not wish to pay more a lot more.

I'm getting too old and the plan is expensive

I got sick in Paris, not too serious but wanted a recommendation on an English speaking doctor. A "Dr." somebody with a heavy accent answered. Would not give his medical credentials but admitted he was not certified in the US. It didn't matter as they would not provide a referral, would not review the diagnosis, would not do anything to help. I was told to see a doctor and submit a claim. I have used other providers in the past that will give a referral, make the appointment and review the diagnosis to ensure it conforms to US standards. One company has doctors on payroll who will actually visit you in the hotel and take care of the issue.

So HCC falls far short.

They were polite and sent a follow up automated email to see if I needed to file a claim. Nice but hardly enough to take care of my issue.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector Lite
After the initial automatic email response to my claim I waited 3 months. I then sent an email asking what was going on and received a response asking for more information - clearly no-one had looked at my claim until I sent the reminder. Then I heard nothing for another month until I sent another reminder. In total it took four months for me to receive my money - the validity of the claim was never in dispute and the sum was not large so it should never have taken so long.

I became sick and was unable to understand the French operators to get a Dr. I called the help number and the women could not understand that I had a number and just wanted her to call it for me. France has a Dr SOS service that will send a Dr to your hotel. She put me on hold for a very long time and I gave up. I walked down the street to a pharmacy and was given a Dr's name and address and we went to his office for care. I had no help from this insurer.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
I supplied all the documentation on 2/9/17. I got my checks on 4/13.

There were two problems. The reviewer would not accept a paid statement from the cruise line as proof of payment. The notification of this rejection was not communicated clearly resulting in delays.

Put another way, this the kind of BS we expect from insurance companies. Delaying payment to improve their cash flow. I made numerous phone calls and it still took over 2 months.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Universal Cruise
This is a disingenuous survey. The "value" of insurance is only realized if you file a claim, which I did not. I have no way of objectively telling you if this coverage was good or bad precisely because I didn't use it. If I had missed my cruise due to illness would it have paid the bill without a huge argument? Who knows?
It appeared to be a good price and appeared to have adequate coverage. But that's the problem with insurance. What you think you have coverage for is often wrong. And policies are not written by marketing people.
