I didn’t have to use the coverage on this trip, however, I did have to file a claim for last years trip due to my father in law passing away while we were on a cruise. All expenses I sent in were paid and the process was easy. I was told that due to other natural disasters at the time that there were many claims ahead of mine. I had no problem with that and highly recommended to all!

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
I had to file 2 claims for this trip: Medical (cruise ship doctor and medicine) and trip delay caused by a cancelled flight due to bad weather. The airline had no flights that would make my cruise ship so I had to fly out of a different airport and airline. The new tickets were almost twice the price. This was the first time I have had to file a claim so I didn't know what to expect. They covered all my extra expenses for the trip delay and all the medical expenses. I filed online and it was resolved within a few days. Very pleased.

It is very hard to rate an insurance plan unless you have to file a claim but as best as I can tell this was a good plan for us.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Universal Cruise
We had to cancel our trip two days before departure because of the death of a relative. The Nationwide claims representative was very helpful in explaining the claims process, and he sent us the necessary forms and instructions on completing them. Our claim was processed in about 10 days, and the refund was for the correct amount. We have re-booked the cruise, and will purchase insurance from Nationwide again.

Currently we do have a "Help" screen available that advises if you are "VISITING MULTIPLE COUNTRIES?, Choose the country where you will be spending the most time or the first country you are visiting outside the U.S. If you are taking a cruise, select the first port of arrival as your destination." It was a great piece of mind to have the medical coverage when traveling outside the United States.
Even though we did not have to use it.

John Hancock Gold
Whenever I purchase a travel insurance plan, my primary concern is the medical coverage and medical evacuation, which can be very costly. This plan had better protection, in that respect, than many of the others for this price point. Lost baggage and delay of trip are more or less standard in all of these plans. I also look to see that my protection is primary, rather than secondary. This means that if my baggage is lost, I don't need to file a claim with my homeowner's insurance company and just file directly with the travel insurance carrier. I did not need to file a claim (happily) so I can't comment on their service, which, after all, is what this is all about, but the protection available suited my requirements.
