TripAssure Advantage Asset Plus
It was unclear that one has to insure ALL parts of the vacation, even the reusable parts of airline tickets, if one wants cancellation for any reason. We purchased cancel for any reason - very expensive - to avoid loss when canceling a vacation when we feel ill. Perhaps this was overkill. I am still unclear what would be covered if one selected the much less expensive cancellation for illness, which should be more appropriate for us. As senior citizens since we recover from illnesses slower than younger people we cancel trips when less ill than when we were younger, since we would not enjoy the vacation if sick even if we could stagger on to the plane. Its unclear what evidence they would require to refund expenses. Fortunately for this vacation we were healthy.

AXA Assistance USA Gold
My only disappointment was the lack of coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. Although I did not buy the insurance when I arranged my travel, I did buy very early to the time of travel. Should have had full coverage!

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. Much like the AXA Assistance USA Gold plan, most comprehensive policies will offer a waiver of pre-existing conditions if you meet the following conditions: You purchase the policy within 10 to 30 days of making your first initial payment; insure all prepaid non-refundable travel expenses prior to your departure date; and be medically fit to travel the day you purchase the policy.

Travelex Travel Basic
The plan is ok but these plans are hard to compare. People want to be covered if they need a medical evacuation or if they miss a flight or luggage is lost or are injured. Why is it so difficult to make the plan clear so there aren't any surprises?

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
The policy appeared to provide sufficient coverage though without having a claim to submit it would be difficult to rate this policy as its value would be in the ease of claim process and claim payment provided if it was needed. I give this three stars not to indicate dissatisfaction but as a neutral rating since I had no claim experience to report on.

TripAssure Advantage Asset
.I particularly like dealing with the Insure My Trip website and its policy scanning tool. I also made a few calls to them to get clarification on some items. Among policies that seemed to satisfy my coverage criteria, I picked TripAssure for the price.

I (the purchaser) am not "somewhat dissatisfied" with this policy, as implied with my three star ratings. Frankly, it may be a great policy, or it may be crap. We had no claims, so there is no way to test that it is any good. The true test is whether or not they pay claims fully, promptly and with no runarounds.

I spent a lot of time on my policy search because the policy was for a scuba diving vacation for my adult children and granddaughter. My emphasis was on medical and repatriation coverage, with due consideration give to loss of equipment in the event of theft or baggage loss. Although I bought transportation and lodging from Delta Vacations, I did not use a "trip provider" for the important part of our vacation--the diving. If you are using a travel agent or other type of trip arranger/provider like an ocean or land cruise/tour, then I suggest that you carefully consider provisions that supposedly protect you against trip cancellation or delays.

AIG Travel Travel Guard® Preferred
March 5, 2023:

Since filing a claim my wife, Gail, has done the following: Initial claim: November 2022; had to get a agent to help get a claim number on line and December 13, 2022 submitted the requested information and received a confirmation that documents submitted were received; December 23, 2022 requesting the same information; January 6 received identical correspondence from Brandyn Dang requesting more information which was sent AGAIN; January 18 email from AIG they needed more time to review my claim, January 26 sent email to AIGTravlAlerts requesting some one call my wife Gail. Gail finally spoke to someone in Customer service who said although we check on the status of our claim the web page to check on the status has not been updated and shows closed. I insisted on speaking to a supervisor who was absolutely NO help. This is very frustrating and I am not the only one having issues with AIG. I have a friend who also is await a response from AIG since November 2022. They are quick to take our money but delays, delays, request for the same information...this is a very poor insurance company.

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare
I Purchased this plan, and then had an emergency so I was not able to use it. I never received even an email from anybody about my purchase. I begin to worry that maybe I didn’t purchase it after all. I had to search my bank account to confirm that I had travel insurance. Made it very very hard to make the call. I couldn’t even remember what insurer I used Thanks for telling me it was Berkshire Hathaway I couldn’t even get that figured out! Not only that I called to work this out and you guys don’t even have weekend hours? So lame. Super unhappy Can’t really comment on the plan couldn’t use it. But I will be commenting right here on insure my trip. Boo.

Price is just too high for two seniors trying to enjoy retirement. Please consider lowering prices for us.

TravelSafe Classic
Proof of service, reliability, and support unfortunately come to light only after an incident. Fortunately I did not have to file a claim. Although I see the need for travel/trip insurance I would like to see reviews from people who actually had to file a claim with Travel Safe Classic Plan to see what help and support was provided and how fast before writing a good or bad review.
