Buyer beware of the waiting period for this travel insurance. We purchased this policy on a Sunday for a trip starting in 6 days on the upcoming Saturday. We found out on Monday morning that a family member passed away on Sunday night so we proceeded to cancel our plan tickets, tours, etc to mourn, spend time with our family, and prepare for the funeral. I filed a claim for reimbursement of non-refundable fees like our plane ticket, museum tickets, etc. We just found out that our claim was denied since the policy did not start until 12:01 AM the next day. Our family member passed away at 11:58 PM on Sunday (3 minutes before the policy was in effect on Monday). Be aware that you will not be covered until the waiting period is over, even when faced with a tragic circumstance like the passing of a family member.

While the Trip Cancellation coverage included in the plan you purchased can typically provide coverage if you are forced to cancel your trip due to the unforeseen sickness or injury of yourself, a traveling companion or family member, your coverage must be in place before the sickness first commences or takes an unforeseen worsening in order for the plan to provide coverage. While in Paris, our trip was interrupted due to thefts from pickpockets, but Generali reimbursed us for our losses after we provided them with the police report and copies of receipts/bills verifying the losses.

Easy online enrollment. Very pleased by coverage cost. In some cases, similar policies were nearly twice the cost.

We paid over $1000 for a premium policy, then when my wife fractured her foot and we needed to incur cancellation expenses for some of our aggressive trip activities, we discovered you don't cover that situation. I haven't used trip insurance in the past and this taught me that it's still not worth it. I'll save a couple thousand a year in trip insurance costs, take my chances, and save money over the long run.

We did follow up with Generali who advised that you did not file a
claim but called to inquire about reimbursement for two nights of hotel
accommodations and taxi expenses to get you from one place to another while your three companions were hiking. However, these would not be covered expenses under your Travel Delay coverage since the cause of the additional expenses were for an injury sustained prior to coverage which began on your date of departure.
Generali did suggest that you may still wish to submit a claim for reimburse-ment of any prepaid non-refundable travel expenses. Please call the Generali claims department at (800) 541-3522 for additional information.Nov 30,2018
