Fortunately I didn't need to file a claim, but I was glad to be covered. Another member of the group I was with did fall sick and spent several days in the hospital. He needed to change his return flight home and spent several additional days at our hotel after we all had left, and he had NOT opted to purchase travel insurance. Bad idea! I am glad I purchased through InsureMyTrip.com - Easy process, easy to compare policies, and good prices!

I purchased a "custom" plan to cover the possibility of a hurricane chasing us out of a vacation in the Florida Keys. When making the purchase, I was told specifically that a hurricane "warning" would put the policy in force. Well, we waited as long as we could but when the hurricane "warning" was posted for the Keys (with the eye passing over our location) we packed up the kids and the boats and, like any prudent person would, headed for the mainland. Even if we wanted to haul the boats back for the remainder of the month, many of our guests cancelled their visit and we lost at least two days. Needless to say, the claim was denied because there was no "mandatory" evacuation. I suppose they expected us to sit in traffic behind the people who were too foolish to leave on time. Never again.

    We're sorry to hear there was confusion about a warning versus a mandatory evacuation in the case of a hurricane. Our policy does clearly state that coverage goes into effect with a mandatory evacuation. We also were able to review recorded phone calls of your purchase and follow-up conversations, and we could find no instance where any CSA or IMT representative discussed that a warning would put the policy in force. We provide our policy in writing and offer a toll free number to ensure customers understand the policy before traveling.

        By the time you get a "mandatory evacuation" in the Keys it's too late to leave-only 1 road in and the same road out. So when or where is hurricane insurance usable and valid?

I had to change my travel plans (no claim made) and while my new travel time was one day less than the original, with no change in price, I had to pay more for the same coverage. I was unhappy with this situation.
