The Global Alert Preferred plan offers comprehensive Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip due an unforeseen covered event.
Although I did not need the insurance for the trip just knowing it was there was reassuring. At the end of the trip I thought I might need the insurance as my flight was cancelled and I was not notified, but Southwest worked out a reasonable flight plan.

I filed a claim shortly after returning from the trip because of trip interruption caused by airline/airport issues. I was pleased with the beginning of the claim process, and very satisfied with the payment from Global Alert. However, claim paperwork was received by Global Alert mid-July, and final payment was received mid-October. I had initially been told to expect 20-30 days for the whole process. I would use Global Alert again, because of the full amount of the reimbursement for the missed portion of the trip.

I did not make this trip! Prior to the departure, I canceled, which you state in the policy, c complete refund. I was advised of a refund of only a few dollars. Not worth pursuing. Not good!

"You have the right to cancel the Policy at any time by giving advance notice to Our Agent or Us (stating when thereafter the cancellation shall be effective). We will refund any unearned premium to You within 10 days of cancellation."
Since your policy was effective for the trip cancellation benefit for approximately one year, the pro-rated refund was just a fraction of the entire premium.

Your last trip, which experienced the claim, was insured through a different provider that was also available with InsureMyTrip. However, you would have been as happy with the service and care provided by Global Alert should you have experienced another claim.
We had to cancel 2-3 weeks prior to leaving for our 2 week cruise due to a medical event. When I called to find out what I needed to do, the representative was very kind and patient and provided me clear directions over the phone and then emailed the packet to me. I didn't deal with it for about 3 weeks. I finally put the information together; copies of credit card receipts and invoices and submitted via email. They have an online system where you can track the status of your claim. I received the refund we expected in about 3 weeks.

For a measly $60 doctor's charge incurred during our cruise, for reimbursement, Global Alert now requires us to go to our primary insurance (Medicare) first, then to our secondary insurance (UHC). With all this time and effort about to be expended for a lousy $60 bill, we will NEVER use Global Alert again, and we will so advise all our friends.
