Our problem was simple and not costly. Our luggage was delayed 36 hours on a trip to Ireland. We filed a claim (with all documentation) for $119 for items we had to purchase while awaiting our luggage. We received a terse generic email acknowledging receipt of our claim shortly after filing. And we finally did receive a check for $119 a little over one month later. I don't mind a one month processing time HOWEVER there was no further communication from the company during that period, leaving us wondering what was going on. They should do an update email occasionally during the claim processing. Hopefully, there is better communication if someone has a serious issue while traveling.

We called the emergency number while we were on our trip to get information about medical services. The representative was extremely courteous and helpful. When we returned we filed a claim on this policy for medical expenses and trip interruption. The agency processed the claim efficiently and we had our reimbursement checks in a very timely manner. We would use this company again without hesitation.

I filed a claim for delayed baggage. My luggage was stuck in Moscow customs and never made it to me in Siberia, forcing me to buy clothes to make it through the trip. All of the documentation I submitted - from the lost baggage claim to all of the purchase receipts - were in Russian so I was unsure if my claim would be accepted. It was!!!! Today I received a check for the maximum allowed amount specified in the policy. I will use John Hancock on my next overseas trip!

We always choose Insure My Trip when we go overseas, the plans offered give us many choices, and we usually save over those offered by the carriers (cruise lines, travel agents). In addition, the plans cover without reducing benefits as the trip nears, unlike many offered by the carriers.

We bought this insurance to protect a large investment in a very special European vacation. We were concerned about possible severe weather events, labor issues in the countries we visited, as well as potential health issues and the usual risks of delayed flights and missed connections. Thankfully, our trip went well and we did not have to file a claim, but we were glad we didn't have to worry about unexpected and unavoidable problems.

I am very satisfied with the resolution of our claim. The premium was fair. Processing time was much longer than anticipated, likely due to an exceptionally high number of claims due to Hurricane Irma. The delay did create some uncertainty that the claim would be paid but it worked out. I would prefer that the policy offered a “cancel for any reason†option. Given life’s uncertainties as a senior, I would likely accept the additional premium when insuring an expensive trip. Without this coverage, the fine print detail in a policy creates uncertainty.
