i bought this insurance for a three-week trip to mexico. compared to the total price of my trip (plane fare, condo rental, etc.), the premium was entirely reasonable for peace of mind in terms of medical emergency, necessity for evacuation, etc.
the provision about coverage in the event of civil unrest (per a warning from the US state dept) was especially useful this year, because there had been violent protests related to political events and also drug cartel killings in mexico just before i left the USA, and i wasn't sure (a) whether to change my mind about going or (b) what i would do if the unrest occurred closer to where i was going.
with the insurance i bought, i felt much more comfortable about costs coverage in the event of some disaster -- medical, political, even family illness or death.
in addition, buying it thru insuremytrip.com was really easy. it would have taken me hours of research to get the info about travel insurance if i had not stumbled onto this website.

The travel insurance industry standard requires that the insured person provides documentation in order to be reimbursed for their out of pocket expenses. A covered Travel Delay will reimburse up to a per day or maximum limit for additional meals, local transportation, and lodging accommodations.
