I studied the various plans on the website and then purchased the plan on the phone. The person I spoke to on the phone was extremely knowledgeable and helped me choose the best plan for me. I wanted a plan with good emergency evacuation coverage so I chose the plan accordingly. I also went by the plan rating. I'm glad I purchased the insurance and glad I didn't need emergency evacuation or medical care.

The plan was set up more for people taking cruises or tours. We were traveling independently,so aside from airfares, it was hard to estimate the cost of the trip. We buy the insurance for peace of mind, but given our particular circumstances, I feel that all the travel insurance companies are slightly overpriced. However, I might have felt differently if I had had occasion to file a claim. Fortunately, that was unnecessary.
