On advice from a colleague from work, we insured our Disney cruise through InsureMyTrip. It was cheaper than insuring through Disney. Less than a week before the cruise, a member of the travel party had a medical issue that caused us to miss the cruise. I submitted a claim which was processed and the reimbursement was received within one month. The documentation requirements were clearly outlined in the email I received as a result of my claim submission.
It took some time to gather all the required documentation but it was more than worth it as the entire cost of the cruise was reimbursed. I normally don't insure trips but I will do so going forward and will use InsureMyTrip.

I bought this insurance because my wife and I were taking our first cruise. Our friends take out trip insurance for every cruise and recommended using this because it was cheaper than what the cruise line offered. I believe this plan was as good as the plan the cruise line offered, but at a better rate. If I were to purchase trip insurance, I would get this plan again. However, I will probably not buy trip insurance again. I felt like this was a markup playing into my fears much like extended warranties, flight insurance, and rental car add'l insurance. I would rather plan my trip smartly to prevent the kind of things one would use trip insurance for. For example, my wife and I flew into the embarkation city a day ahead of time and picked a return flight several hours after cruise returned to port, so there was hardly any chance of us missing the cruise or our flight home. We also picked a cruise during the time of year when the weather was mild, which would prevent a change in itinerary due to storms, hurricanes, etc.

Thank you very much for your input. We certainly appreciate your comments and agree that claims can be prevented or mitigated to some extent. However, the number one covered reason to cancel or interrupt your trip is the unexpected sickness, disease or injury of an insured, traveling companion or family member. Many times these are situations that are out of your control.
In addition, Comprehensive plans include medical coverage to reimburse you for medical expenses incurred during your trip and emergency medical evacuation which provides transportation to the nearest appropriate medical facility where you can get the proper treatment that may not be available locally.

We did not have to file any claims but felt like we had the coverage we needed just in case it was needed. One of the people we ate dinner with each night on the cruise died of a heart attack while snorkeling in Cozumel so it really made us glad that we had travel insurance. Also very glad we did not have to use it.

Although I did not need to file a claim (thankfully!) the peace of mind I had after purchasing this very reasonably priced policy was worth every penny. There have been so many stories in the news lately about cruise ship mishaps - and one of my biggest fears about this cruise was getting sick in Mexico. The policy covered all of that. For the money you're spending on a great vacation, it's such a small price to pay for that extra peace of mind.

We had a very rough crossing of the Gulf. I felt more secure knowing I had trip insurance. If things had been more rough, I very well might have used it. Sea sickness is really awful! An entire ship of people being ill made for a couple really nasty days for housekeeping staff..

The travel insurance plan covered every thing I thought was important for our 2 week cruise and at a fair price. The cruise line changed our itinerary prior to departure so we submitted our claim for this. Although the insurance required a ton of paperwork to prove that the itinerary was changed they eventually paid the $700. I recommend you keep all paperwork and emails of your trip.
