Travelex Travel Basic
We didn't need any of the coverage, but it's nice to know that it's there if you need it. We've had trips for which we did need it, and were glad to have it. It is just one of the 5 P-s: Prior Planning Prevents P**** Performance.

Would have rated a 5, but was not sure if the plan covered cancellation due to hurricanes(Irma) or other related weather problems. Will have to review the coverages more carefully in the future. Possibly a cancel for any reason if cost is reasonable for the trip.

Thank you for providing feedback on this policy.

The Travelex Travel Basic policy does not provide Hurricane specific coverage, but does allow cancellation due to the following covered reasons:

"3. Common Carrier delays resulting from inclement
weather, or mechanical breakdown or organized
labor strikes that affect public transportation;"

"8. your Home made uninhabitable by fire, flood,
volcano, earthquake, hurricane or other natural
    disaster;"

Travelex Travel Basic
Travelex does not allow to opt out of medical coverage when travelling in the U.S.A. With Medicare, I did not need medical coverage, only flight delay, cancellation/interruption benefits. Moreover, Travelex has an exceptionally long departure delay exclusion, I believe eight hours. There is not, however, any limit on arrival delays. On a May 15, 2017 United Airlines flight to Newark connecting to a direct flight to Madrid, Spain. The Orlando 3:30pm departure flight was canceled, and United put me on a Lufthansa flight to Frankfort that had a 3-hour layover, for a 3-hour flight to Madrid. Whereas total travel time to Madrid with United was 10 hours 20 minutes, this person disabled from a spinal injury was forced to stand/sit for more than 22 hours. Additionally, I had paid for Premium Economy bulkhead seat with United (because of the spinal condition), and Lufthansa put me in a Sardine Class window seat. I could not file a claim because I arrived at my destination, though 12 hours late, missing the first day of the tour.

    Hello,
We want to thank you for taking the time to put your concerns in writing.
With regards to your concern about the Travel Basic coverage, the comparison website allows you to compare the benefits, coverages, rates, and exclusions of the insurance plans offered by several different Travel Insurance Companies. When you spoke to the representative you did talk about a few different policies offered by different companies.
The Travelex Travel Basic plan that you purchased is a package plan and while you can choose the trip cost amount that you want to insure on the policy, the only benefit that can be removed is the Trip Cancellation benefit. Please refer to the Travel Basic Description of Coverage that was emailed to you at the time of purchase on June 13, 2017 at 2:26pm.
The Trip Delay Benefit, on page 12, states, “If your Covered Trip is delayed for 5 hours or more, we will reimburse you, up to the amount shown in the Schedule, for reasonable additional expenses incurred by you for hotel accommodations, meals, telephone calls and local transportation while you are delayed. We will not pay benefits for expenses incurred after travel becomes possible.” There are also six (6) different reasons allowing for Trip Delay, the first of which is, “any Common Carrier delay,” which is in the Description of Coverage on page 13. Trip Delay and Arrival Delay would be the same benefit, if it is for a covered reason.
The Trip Interruption benefit, on page 10, states, “If you are unable to continue your Covered Trip for one of the Covered Reasons, we will reimburse you, less any refund paid or payable, for unused travel arrangements. . . .” There are specific reasons for this benefit, such as, “arrangements canceled by an airline, cruise line, motor coach company, or tour operator, resulting from inclement weather, mechanical breakdown or organized labor strikes that affect public transportation,” which is in the Description of Coverage on page 12.
Insurance is highly regulated and to confirm coverage, completed claim forms and documentation are an important part of the claim process. We have contacted the Claim Administrator to help get the claim process started and they emailed you the applicable claim forms and a request for any required documents on Wednesday August 2, 2017. These documents are needed to evaluate and process your claim.
We hope this clarifies the Trip Delay Benefit and Trip Interruption benefit on our Travel Basic policy. If you have any further questions, please contact the Claim Administrator at 1-866-968-2061 7:30am – 7:00pm CST, M-F. To download a Claim Form visit http://.travelexinsurance.com/SBClaims/.

    Kind Regards,
    Marcy
