A plan with great value. Did not have to use but it was worth the piece of mind having it if needed.

MEDEX TravMed Choice Outbound
I purchased a plan from MEDEX for my 6 month trip to Thailand. I went to the hospital twice so I filed a claim when I came back to the states. I never got an email or notification letting me know that my claim had been filed and rejected. I had to call myself. When the insurance policy stated that $100 deductible was required, I did not realize that I had to spend at least $100 to get reimbursed. My health bills only amounted to $41 (1,500 Baht), which I take responsibility for not reading the fine print. Regardless, I will not be using MEDEX in the future.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you were hospitalized during the trip. While the TravMed Choice Outbound plan is a very good plan, we certainly understand your disappointment that the deductible exceeded the incurred medical expenses. Unfortunately, this plan does not offer the ability to chose a 0 USD deductible. In the future, we encourage you to call us at 800-487-4722 so that we can assist you in choosing a plan that does not include a deductible.

I never had to use the insurance or file claim so I am unsure how it would have been handled if a claim would have been given.

Poor coverage. Poorer Service. Would NEVER recommend to anyone else. Would, in fact, tell others to AVOID this misleading and unethical company and its products.

didn't cover pre existing conditions so I was disappointed, as that was what I was looking for.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy.

The Global Underwriters Diplomat International plan covers medical expenses up to a maximum of 20,000 USD due to a sudden and unforeseen recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition. This does not include coverage for known, scheduled, required or expected medical care, drugs, or treatments existent or necessary prior to the effective date of coverage. Otherwise, the plan excludes coverage for pre-existing medical conditions in a 12 month period prior to the effective date of coverage. This exclusion does not apply to Emergency Evacuation/Repatriation.

The best way to waive the pre-existing conditions exclusion is to purchase a Comprehensive travel insurance plan immediately after you put money down towards your trip. Most policies will offer a waiver of pre-existing conditions if you satisfy the following requirements: purchase the policy within 10 to 21 days after making the initial trip payment; insure 100% of the prepaid non-refundable expenses prior to your departure date; and be medically fit to travel the day you purchase the policy.

Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you would like to learn more about obtaining coverage for pre-existing conditions.

I felt very comfortable with this plan. The feeling of not having to worry about any possible problems is priceless! The best part was not having to use it!

I've been using HCC for years. In August I finally had an accident that required a 3-day hospital visit. I had to pay out of pocket almost $3,000 and its now 60 days after my accident and I have not been reimbursed. The company has given me no updates or time frame for this. My accident and treatment were very standard and clearly fall within the guidelines of coverage. It shouldn't take an underwriter more than an hour to see this and approve it.

I can no longer recommend HCC - they are the cheapest so I guess you get what you pay for. I will pay more in the future for a more responsive plan. As a Yoga Teacher, $3000 is a lot of money which I needed to borrow- I thought the entire point of insurance was to be covered when you have an accident....

I am frustrated that people give them such high reviews. Reviews from people who did not file claims aren't an accurate assessment of the company.

UPDATE: As of 11/29 I have not been reimbursed. I was told that my claim was closed because I did send a from that my hospital sent to them on the day of my accident. The front-line reps are very uninformed- many contradicting each other. The last guy told me it was a bad idea to pay my claim myself (I had to to get my passport back from the hospital), which was exactly the advice I received from HCC several months ago.

When an InsureMyTrip rep contacted them directly it was discovered that 2 pieces of paper were 'stuck' together and they would reopen my claim. Very unprofessional.

UPDATE Feb 2 2016

I finally received my claim check. I was reimbursed for the total amount of my claim, minus a deductible and small fee for the exchange rate.

I'm happy about this, however still unhappy about the 5 months it took to be paid. The company sent 4 checks to me that never arrived and after a number of phone calls they finally UPS'd one to me. How can 4 checks get lost in the mail?

Anyway, look elsewhere. I'm currently using IMG Global as they were very responsive to my questions about their policy, however I have not had to file a claim yet.

AIG Travel Travel Guard MedEvac Plan
This was a great option for travel insurance that only covers what I needed (medical/emergency coverage). Many other travel insurance plans lump in features that I have never needed (trip cancellation), which increases the premium. This plan is the best of both affordability as well as peace of mind.
