Our original flight to Florida was canceled due to the air traffic controller person who started the fire in Illinois in September and it didn't look like we would be able to make it there in time for our cruise. I called to see if we were covered and I was told that this was not one of the covered reasons. What good is insurance if it doesn't cover unforeseen events that are beyond my control? I asked to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to a voice mail. I asked for a return phone call which never came. As it turned out we made a last minute flight the next day and arrived at the ship one hour before departure. I did loose the cost of the hotel for one night and I had to pay a cab $100 to get us to the port on time instead of $30 for a shuttle that would have taken too long. The insurance sounds good but the company looks for any way to get out of paying. The outstanding folks at InsuremyTrip contacted me and helped with the above issue. I received a check today to cover the missed hotel room. The reason I selected Nationwide Mutual was because it was a recognized name, because the cost was slightly better than the competition and they offered significantly higher medical coverage which would be helpful if something serious happened. I will not book another insurance policy outside of InsureMyTrip. They provided excellent customer service.

Very easy and straight forward process with time to review and cancel if desired. Can't comment on the response to a claim as we had none. Will use again on our trip to Alaska.

To request a change, please contact our Customer Care department with the order number and let one of our representatives know what you need to adjust. The representative will update your policy to see if these changes will affect your premium. If you are increasing the trip cost or adding days to the length of your trip, you may need to pay an additional charge for the additional coverage.Dec 09,2014

It was a comfort to know we had trip insurance. With elderly parents you never know when you might have to leave urgently or cancel the trip. Also, accidents can happen while on a trip so again it was reassuring to know we had additional coverage.

I think that people that take insurance for these trips and never use it should get a discount on future cruises or trips.
I also feel that individuals requiring wheel chairs,walkers, or canes for their mobility pay a greater amount for their coverage because they are often either injured by falls or cause others to be injured trying to get out of their way.

Travel insurance is similar to Home Owner's insurance, premium is paid to protect your investment against potential perils. However, typically there is no discount for not having damage to your home- much the same as travel insurance cannot be discounted for not having to cancel your trip.
For comprehensive policies, premium is calculated based on: the trip cost, the length of travel, and the age of the traveler. The policy you purchased, appears to have covered pre-existing medical conditions at no additional cost, since you purchased within 10 days of making the initial trip payment.

The purpose use of this insurance was for a 15 days eastern Caribbean cruise. Thankfully, we did not have to use it, but it was nice to know it was there to help.
