Thank you for your comments. We certainly agree that spending more than 1,000 USD for a policy that you did not need to use may now seem unnecessary and expensive. Premiums are based on the ages of the travelers, cost of trip, and length of trip. Some plans may even vary their rates based on destination. Premiums also vary from company to company and plan to plan. John Hancock offered three levels of coverage, the Bronze, Silver and Gold plans. You decided to purchase the Gold plan which is their premiere program with enriched benefits and primary coverage.

Coverage seemed good for the price. I can't say anything about the claims paying experience with your company, but I assume it's good. Documentation was complete and helpful to have with me on the trip. The best part was the interaction with the representative of InsureMyTrip - made the process of sorting through much more efficient. I was however armed with the possibilities and what I generally wanted covered before I made the call and that helped both of us.

The piece of mind was valuable when one thinks of all the mayhem going on in the world today. As we were going through a major European airport I felt the need for the knowledge that my loved ones would be taken care of if something were to happen to me. After I bought the insurance my worries eased and I enjoyed the trip and flights. No monsters hiding under the seats. But as I heard of the bombing in Manchester, England I was glad I had taken the precaution.

Since we had no need to file a claim, the policy seems very expensive for an 18-day trip in Scandinavia (a no-conflict zone). I have no experience with your claims handling, so cannot comment on that.

This company provided wonderful claim service and will the first one we look at for future travels. We had to file under "trip interruption" when a family emergency necessitated us cutting our trip short. On the morning we made the decision to head home I called to make sure I followed all the appropriate steps, not wanting to invalidate our claim for any reason. Ernesto answered the phone and provided wonderful customer service during what was obviously a very stressful time. He not only answered all my questions but offered to go ahead and start the claim process for me and to send me a "checklist" of what I would need to submit when we got home. As I was preparing to gather the paperwork I called and spoke to Victoria who was super helpful in making sure I understood what each piece of information requested was. I was told to allow 30 days to have the claim processed and approximately 3 weeks later I got an email stating that the claim in its entirety would be paid and today, 28 days after I submitted the paperwork, I have checks covering 100% of the claim in hand.

While I did not need it, I consider it money well spent for the peace of mind knowing had I needed the coverage for any aspect of my trip, I had a good plan with a well-known company.
