I am grateful that the trip insurance that I purchased thru InsureMyTrip.com specifically Global Alert! Preferred to South Africa came through when I really needed it! My husband was diagnosed w/ stage 4 cancer on 1-10-12, I purchased the trip insurance on 1-9-12. After supplying all of the needed info, I was sent a check for the full cost of my flight. I am mostly interested in med evac coverage plus the medical. I would like to know, how does the rates change with the lead time from the departure date, is it cheaper to buy the coverage closer to the departure date or further from the departure date?

Claim paid within two weeks. I had broken a tooth on a ship and could not get it repair until I returned to states. While they paid for doctor consult on the ship, this policy, as most, did not cover necessary follow-up treatment after you arrive home.
