These plans are a sham. I came down with a bad cold in Gunten. We cut our stay short and returned to Paris a day early. Chills fever stuffed up nose aches and pains. The Swiss hotel would not refund the second nights stay, and because I didn’t go to a Dr I can’t file a claim. It’s BS.

    We are sorry to learn of the illness that you suffered while traveling. On this plan, Trip Interruption covers: "Your or a Family Member’s or a Traveling Companion’s or a Business Partner’s or a Child Caregiver’s covered Sickness or Injury which: a) occurs while You are on Your Trip, b) requires Medical Treatment at the time of interruption resulting in medically imposed restrictions, as certified by a Legally Qualified Physician, and c) prevents Your continued participation on Your Trip;"

    Unfortunately, with all plans offered on our website, if you do not get documentation from a physician that you cannot continue your trip, you would not have coverage under Trip Interruption.

I did not take this trip, cancelled the cruise months before. In other words I wasted money on a trip I did not take.

Once you are outside of the review period typically no refund will be issued but we can request to transfer the policy to a future trip, to not lose the insurance premium.     Thank you for your review. Travel insurance is reimbursement based and this policy is one of reimbursement. There are times when insurance providers can advance payment, based on the situation. During the trip you can always contact the insurance providers 24 Hour Emergency Assistance Center. At that time they can medically monitor you and if medical costs were high they may have been able to give the hospital details to forward any bills. After confirming the claim was deemed covered the final decision to pay would be made. I really can't evaluate the effectiveness of this plan because I never had to file a claim. However, it was worth the peace of mind to have a policy just in case.

My medical insurance only covers emergencies when out of state. My primary reason to purchase trip insurance was for the out of state medical insurance as I had a pre-existing knee condition.. It turns out that the insurance covers ER, hospital, and items prescribed by that. So, going to a regular doctor (PT or chiropractor) was not included. It was still better to have it in case there was an emergency and I needed to alter plane reservations or had an issue with luggage or weather.

Although I didn't have to use this coverage to file a claim, it still gave me peace of mind. My husband is 85 and I am 79 so the coverage was expensive as I chose a group that was a primary payer. However, I knew that I would have paid coverage in case of an emergency. That was worth it to me. If money is tight, then this type of primary payer coverage would not be a value.

The plan coverage to cost ratio was great. I did make one small claim for about $175. Unfortunately it took FIVE months for them to process and deposit my claim into my bank account. FIVE months. I have 27 correspondences with them via and 9 phone call records on my phone. I can't even tell you how many questions (emails) went unanswered. I finally had to employ the assistance of a claims specialist from InsureMyTrip.com to look into this. Coincidentally just days later I received my reimbursement. Just a little communication from IMG would've eased the process and kept me from wondering what was going on. I received so much mis-information from them it's not even funny. I felt like I was a supervisor there who needed to constantly remind the staff to follow-up and reiterate repeated information over and over. I booked another plan for the current trip that I am on and it was NOT with IMG.

Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. Requesting a Customer Advocate is as simple as calling 800-487-4722 or emailing [email protected], explaining the events which resulted in a claim, and the challenges you are facing.

The good news is we did not experience any problems at all on our trip last month to South America so no need to file a claim - Thank You! This said my only contact with IMG was an e-mail of which I printed off a cover page. Call me old school but I would think for a $1000+ we could have at least received a insurance card by mail if nothing to save our printer ink to put in our wallet such as you get from most other insurance companies i.e. State Farm or even Medicare - KH
