I didn’t have to use the coverage on this trip, however, I did have to file a claim for last years trip due to my father in law passing away while we were on a cruise. All expenses I sent in were paid and the process was easy. I was told that due to other natural disasters at the time that there were many claims ahead of mine. I had no problem with that and highly recommended to all!

Very very pleased with our plan from Berkshire Hathaway, when tragedy struck in the form of cancer before our trip to Aruba they covered us 100%. It takes about 2 weeks to process and they are the nicest people to deal with. Highly recommended!

We've (fortunately) never had to use the insurance, but it's peace of mind to have it. The representative on the phone explained the plans well and even suggested the one we picked - and it wasn't the most expensive. We always use this site.

I had to file 2 claims for this trip: Medical (cruise ship doctor and medicine) and trip delay caused by a cancelled flight due to bad weather. The airline had no flights that would make my cruise ship so I had to fly out of a different airport and airline. The new tickets were almost twice the price. This was the first time I have had to file a claim so I didn't know what to expect. They covered all my extra expenses for the trip delay and all the medical expenses. I filed online and it was resolved within a few days. Very pleased.

Flight cancelled due to snow and wind storm. Airport closed the whole day and limited the next day. Not covered by ins. Paid $272 and coverage when you really need it was not there.

However, you did note in your review that you did not file a claim with Nationwide. Although we cannot predetermine a claim, you may have had coverage under the policy if you had contacted the Nationwide Claims Department at (888) 490-7606. If you should change your mind, please give them a call.
The only negative is the cost. I reluctantly paid it, because I trust this “brand†more than others, but don’t understand why it is so much more expensive, for roughly the same coverage.

The premium for Comprehensive Plans is calculated based on your trip cost, age of traveler and length of trip. Insurers must file their rates with each state's insurance department who determine that those rates are fair and adequate to meet the coverage terms provided in their policies. These rates may also vary significantly from company to company depending on the insurer's target market.
Berkshire Hathaway works very hard to provide the high level of service that gives them brand recognition to their customer base. However, you may wish to discuss other options for your future trips, so please remember that you may call Customer Care at (800) 487-4722 weekdays from 7:00 AM to midnight ET and weekends from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM ET.
