Unfortunately, we were not able to go on our trip to Portugal. I called to cancel the insurance in March, for our trip in September, and was told since I had not purchased the “cancel for any reason” insurance i was not entitled to any refund. I felt a refund should have been prorated. Oh well, I guess it’s my fault for not reading the restrictions more carefully. I don’t fault the insurance company.

    Thank you for sharing your feedback on the iTravelinsured SE policy. Although we did not meet your expectations, we would like to provide a further explanation to your fellow travelers. Back in March 2018, you requested information on canceling your policy. Since you were outside the "10 Day Review Period", iTravelinsured would not refund your premium but did offer you a voucher for a new trip.

    "If the Insured is not completely satisfied with the insurance, he or she must notify the Company within 10 days of purchase and return the certificate. The Company will give the Insured a full refund of premium provided he or she has not already departed on the Covered Trip or filed a claim."

    Apparently, you also considered canceling your trip and submitting a Trip Cancellation claim but were then advised that you did not have a covered reason as listed in your policy. The specific concern which caused you to cancel your trip would fall under the Cancel For Any Reason option. Sadly, your policy did not include this coverage.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
I called for assistance because my husband had forgotten to bring all hidd medications. We were told there was nothing you could do to help us obtain the meds, and I was very disappointed by that.

Generali Global Assistance Standard
This was our 1st experience of having to cancel a trip due to medical reasons. We filed the necessary paperwork which was lengthy. A checked arrived within 3 weeks for the amount requested. Very impressive!

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare
They were hard to get a hold of after I had a fall and was in the emergency department. All they were required to do was send a fax to the emergency room which is what was requested, however the consultant on the phone instead decided to email and left me sitting in the emergency room for a further 3 hours because the email when to somewhere else in the hospital. I had to have friends at home ring them 5 further times in the middle of the night before the fax was received. I would not recommend this insurance company and I’m glad it wasn’t a major accident or I would have suffered.

After reviewing the details of your assistance case, we see several communication interactions with you for a request to have a verification of benefits faxed directly to your medical provider. Our case notes indicate those were faxed within an hour and a half of your original call and request. However, we do agree your request could have been completed in a more timely manner unfortunately due to our misunderstanding by first sending the verification of benefits to the medical provider via email. As a result of your concern, our claims manager is proactively reaching out to discuss the situation with you.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Prime
We had to extend our trip 2 days when a passport was stolen the night before we were to fly home. I was surprised to find that we could extend the insurance coverage so we still had insurance while we were still out of the country.
We were reimbursed for some of the expenses (flight change fees, fare difference, and lodging) because a stolen passport was one of the covered items for a trip delay.

Overall, good coverage for the price!!

Generali Global Assistance Standard
Airline cancelled our direct flight from the Azores to Boston at the last minute for "commercial operational reasons." We were put on a later flight that included a stopover. This resulted in us missing our flight from Boston home to Philadelphia. We had to purchase tickets on a later flight. We ended up having to eat that additional cost of $442 because the CSA General Global Assistance Custom plan did not cover it even though it purported to cover trip delays and trip interruptions. The (very) small print indicated they would only pay for delays caused by weather, mechanical breakdown or labor strike. So an airline can cancel your flight at the last minute, perhaps because it is not full, leaving you high and dry with additional costs, and this plan won't cover it. Ugh!

    Travel insurance plans are "named peril" policies which means only those perils/hazards that are specifically listed in the policy are covered. These "named perils" may differ according to policy and may even vary by state. Unfortunately, there is no one policy that will cover everything that may occur during a trip.

    In your particular claim, Generali did reimburse you under your Travel Delay according to the terms of your policy. "If you are delayed on your Trip for 6 hours or more, we will
    reimburse you, up to the amount shown in the Schedule for reasonable additional expenses incurred by you for lodging Accommodations, meals, telephone calls, local transportation, and additional vehicle parking charges and additional pet kennel fees incurred due to the delay."

    However, Generali did decline to reimburse you under Trip Interruption for your prepaid nonrefundable flight. SATA canceled your flight for "commercial reasons" which is not a covered peril under any policy including your Generali plan.
