Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
The plan is only valuable for catastrophic medical, since the cancelled flights and hotel rooms appear to not be covered since there was a bombing within a month of our trip, and we did not know to book the travel plan within 10 days of original booking. With war/acts of war, our trip to Istanbul was non refundable, so the plan was worthless to us. Going forward, I would do medical and not trip insurance. We are trying to get our money back, but not much help via AXA.

Thank you very much for your review and your comments for your fellow travelers.
Unfortunately, you purchased this policy on July 2nd for a terrorist attack that occurred at the Budapest Airport on June 28th. In order for this event to have been covered under your AXA policy, the terrorist incident should have occurred after you purchased the policy.
We certainly understand your frustration upon finding that you had no coverage. Perhaps in the future, you will consider calling InsureMyTrip for quotes immediately after making your Initial Trip Payment to ensure that your policy includes coverage for future events.
I updated my insurance just before I left and the paperwork was showing that I was traveling to Afghanistan... nope! I had to call and get that corrected.

The problem with this insurance and apparently all of them is that we do not need medical or evacuation coverage--I wish they would just sell trip interruption, baggage loss, change of plans and so forth separate from the medical coverage. Or at least offer that as an option.

I always purchase trip insurance while traveling abroad but fortunately never had the occasion to use it....until a recent visit to Paris. My husband's wallet was stolen in a crowded bus. It contained not only his credit cards, but around $250 in cash. He never carries around so much money, but since Europe is a cash-based economy where credit cards are often not accepted, we wanted to make sure we had enough cash on hand.
As soon as he discovered the theft, we went immediately to the Paris police, where, after three hours, a report was filed on the theft. A copy was given to my husband. We thought that would be all we needed to file the claim.
When we returned home, we called Travel Insured to file a claim, and were very surprised and disappointed to learn that in this case, nothing was covered at all. When I asked about any sort of retribution for the cost of the wallet itself and for the fee of getting a new drivers' license, for instance, the representative did not go out of her way to offer any alternate suggestions for compensation and just kept quoting the clause.
I had quickly read the policy before purchasing it, and there was, as a matter of fact, a clause in there about baggage loss/personal effects being covered for a maximum of $250 per item. One might assume the same would hold true for a lost wallet, but that is obviously not the case (the argument that there is no way to prove how much cash you have in a wallet is not valid, in my opinion, as there is no way to know how much a lost piece of luggage and its contents are worth...yet insurance will pay $250 for that loss).
I must say I am disappointed and will definitely read the fine print the next time I purchase insurance and will definitely think again before signing with Travel Insured in the future. It would be good to know which, if any, insurance companies represented by Insuremytrip would have covered this loss. The threat of wallet (or camera/smart phone) loss is great, especially in crowded cities, and we'd love to know a company that would cover this should it happen again.
Thank you for the opportunity to air my complaint.

Due to a family member's serious surgery we had to cancel a cruise in Europe for five people. I phoned and got the claim form. About $15 thousand was involved. I sent in about 16 pages of material. My only criticism is that it would have been good for them to send a letter acknowledging receipt of the claim. About three weeks later they phoned and made a reasonable request for some information I had failed to include. A month after that a check arrived for everything we claimed. There were no quibbles about the seriousness of the illness or the details of expenses. A little faster would have been nice, but all in all in was quite a smooth process.
