Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
I looked around for trip insurance for a bike tour I was taking in the Canadian Rockies. This was the coverage I needed at the very lowest price I could find. Fortunately, I didn't need to use the coverage but it was a comfort to know it was there if I did need it.
I'd buy coverage from CSA again.

I could have used my own medical plan for Alaska. I was only out of the country 2 days and someone should have recommended something cheaper. It was too costly for what I needed. Now I know differently.

Thank you very much for your feedback. While it is true your primary health care provider may have been able to provide coverage during the U.S. portion of your trip, the Global Alert Preferred plan you purchased is a comprehensive package plan that offers much more than medical care and provides you coverage from the moment you leave your home until the moment you return back to your home. The Global Alert Preferred policy offers Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Baggage Loss, Baggage Delay, Travel Delay, Emergency Medical, Emergency Medical Evacuation, Financial Default, and a Pre-Existing Condition Waiver. Additionally, premium is typically within the range of 4-10% of the trip cost and is determined by the following factors: the length of the trip, the cost of the trip, and the ages of the travelers. For future purchases or for additional questions regarding comprehensive coverage, please feel free to contact our office at 800-487-4722 where our licensed representatives would be happy to assist you.
I was unaware of the limitations of this policy. My step son travelling with me got a throat infection while we were away. Taking him to the Hospital was not an option. When I called the insurance company I was told this policy was for serious life treating issues. I could take him to the ER and then a decision would be made as to coverage. In the meantime I would have to pay out of pocket and MAYBE I would be reimbursed. Instead I consulted the pharmacist. I was disappointed at the lack of help I received from the agent. My mistake was I should have informed myself of how to use this plan before I left for my trip.

Thank you for your review. Assuming your stepson also had travel insurance with the RoamRight Essential plan, he would have up to 15,000 USD in emergency accident and sickness coverage. Our 24-hour assistance provider, On Call International, would have been able to assist you in finding non-emergent care for the infection. In this situation, you likely would have had to pay out of pocket and submit for reimbursement. However, our claims process is straightforward and easy to do online. You are able to start your claim process the same day treatment was sought. If you would like to speak with us directly about your situation, please call our claims department at 855-762-6252.
It was reassuring to know that I had this coverage even if I did not have to use it. Better to have and not need than to need and not have this insurance for my trip.
